Smolders on top in Basel

Friday, 14 January 2011

Harrie Smolders. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson. It was Harrie Smolders who won Thursday’s biggest class in Basel – a 1.50 class. Smolders rode his 11 year old mare Regina Z (Rex Z x Savoy Hanover), and was both clear and fast in the jump-off. With a time of 37.86 the Dutch rider was over a second ahead of Werner Muff and Quax who came in second on 38.87. Pilar Lucredia Cordon from Spain aboard Nuage Bleu came third with a clear round on 38.91.

The 1.45 speed class was won by Roger Yves Bost on Jovis de Ravel. He was followed by Guy Williams and Torinto van de Middelstede, while Sergio Alvares Moya and Uno came third. The class featured some relatively new partnerships; amongst them Billy Twomey and the Heartbreaker-stallion Romanov, as well as Katharina Offel on Lord if de Chalusse. After a long break away from the international scene the lovely Darco-stallion Winningmood was back in business together with Luciana Diniz, as was Ben Maher’s Robin Hood W.
