Two showjumping classes took place in Aachen on Tuesday; the Sparkassen Youngsters-Cup and the Stawag Opening Class. The youngster class was open for seven and eight year old horses, and initially it was the impressive grey eight year old gelding Check Picobello Z (Cardento x Orlando) that went to the top with Eric Lamaze in the saddle. After the prize giving Lamaze was disqualified though – due to using boots not allowed in the youngster classes. Hence the winner was Germany's Denis Nielsen that went up from second on the eight year old stallion Special One 2 (Stakkato x Escudo I) ahead of Marcus Ehning on the eight year old gelding Gaudi (Ogano Sitte x Calvaro). Third went to Denis Lynch on the seven year old stallion Ho Go van de Padenborre (Darco x Chin Chin).
The 1.45 Stawag Opening Class went to Switzerland's Steve Guerdat riding Qui Vive De La Tour (Helios De La Cour Ii x Rif Du Crocq). Together with the 10 year old mare, Guerdat produced by far the fastest round of the fifty rider class; he was almost two seconds faster than runner-up Ludger Beerbaum on Zinedine (Guidam x Heartbreaker). Fractions behind Beerbaum followed another German rider; Felix Hassman on Horse Gym's Quali Quanti (Quidam De Revel x Non Stop).
