Stallions show off in Mechelen

Wednesday, 28 December 2011

Gregory Wathelet took a win with Copin van de Broy. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson/worldofshowjumping.comThe show in Mechelen started off already Monday.  Yesterday it was one class for Belgian breed horses only, and three stallion classes sponsored by Zangersheide.

In the 5* 1.45 class Gregory Wathelet secured a home win riding Copin van de Broy (Darco x Brownboy). Penelope Leprevost came second aboard Oscar des Fontaines (Lando x Mr Blue), and in third place  was another Belgian rider; Doaat Brondeel with Breemeersen Adorado (Acorado x Gluecksgriff). All top three stallions are born in 2002 and are horses we probably will see more and more in the years to come as they have shown good quality already. Copin ven de Broy and Oscar des Fontaines have both been to start at several 5*shows this year with good results. Breemeersen Adorado has been to start at some 3* and 4* shows, and won a 2*  Grand Prix in Belgium in October.

In the seven year old stallion class three out of the top four stallions were Diamant de Semilly off springs with Harry Smolders and Emerald (Diamant de Semilly x Carthago) as number one. Joe Clee and Utamaro D’ ecaussines (Diamant de Semilly x Quidam de Revel) were second with Niels Bruynseels and Echo van’t Spieveld (Heartbreaker x Capital) on third. Fourth place went to Karline De Brabander and Elvis Ter Putte (Diamant de Semilly x Darco).

In the six year old class Joe Clee took a Britisk win with Vedet de Muze (Cartani x Heartbreaker). The young talent Nicola Philippaerts came second aboard Forever D1arco Ter Linden (Darco x Tenor Manicais), and Brecht Bille - the winner of this years Sires of the World with Hunter’s Scendix - was third riding Hunter’s Canatano Z (Canadian River x Caretano Z).

The Belgian Breed class went to Alexander Kumps and Cru d’Avril Z (Carthage Z x Darco) with Jos Verlooy and Dominio (Thunder vd Zuuthoeve x Azur x de Palustra) on second place.

Today more big names have arrived in Mechelen, and over the next three days there will be several interesting classes to follow. We will see riders such as Simon Delestre, Roger-Yves Bost, Guy Williams, Christian Ahlmann and many more.

Remember that Mechelen also has a live streaming so that you can watch the classes online.
