The sixteenth edition of the San Patrignano CSI5* started today with the class dedicated to young horses, the "WeFree Prize" for seven year olds. Sixteen horse and rider teams jumped the course designed by Louis Konickx, and it was Belgium's Francois Mathy Jr. on Falco van de Clehoeve to snatch the victory with a clean round in 63 seconds flat. Slightly behind was Italian rider Giovanni Consorti on Luce del Castegno, with a clean round in 65.18". The rider, hailing from Siena, placed third at the Italian Championships in Arezzo last week. Third place went to Steve Guerdat on Baloussini, clean in 66.20". The Swiss rider was part of the bronze medal team at the Beijing Olympics.
"It's hard to complain when you are the winner", exclaimed Francois Mathy Jr. He continued, "As always, the organization and the stabling for the horses is perfect. The extremely hot weather did not seem to cause any problems, but was just challenging enough: what you'd expect from a five start show".
"I've had Falco van de Clehoeve for only two months, so I am glad to have such good results on our first big time out together". The BWP gelding by Quickfeuer van Koekshof is part of Team Harmony.
