The Belgian team for the World Equestrian Games unchanged

Friday, 22 August 2014

Not included on the team after all; Constant van Paesschen and Citizenguard Toscan de Sainte Hermelle. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson. The Belgian Equestrian Federation will not change the team selected for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, despite Thursday's decision from the Belgian Arbitration Court for Sport (CBAS). Yesterday's CBAS decision stated that Constant van Paesschen and Citizenguard Toscan de Sainte Hermelle should be included on the Belgian team, following original non-selection for the Games.

Despite the CBAS decision, the Belgian Equestrian Federation upholds their initial selection for the Games. This is made clear in a communication on their website, that states that "national selection for the 2014 WEG will consist of Pieter Devos - Dream of India Greenfield, Jos Lansink - Ensor de Litrange LXII, Olivier Philippaerts - Cabrio Van De Heffinck, Gregory Wathelet - Conrad de Hus and Jos Verlooy - Domino."

Furthermore, the Belgian Equestrian Federation states that this decision was taken unanimously after deliberation in the jumping sports committee following CBAS' annulment of the previous selection. The Federation believes that it is not possible to carry out the CBAS sentence in question, as it would result in removing other selected combinations without the federation being able to justify such a removal.

The deadline for definitive entries for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games was yesterday.
