Friday, 12 July 2013

Ben and Cella are on the British team for Herning. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson. The British team for the European Championships in Herning has been announed. The team will consist of Scott Brash and Hello Sanctos, Ben Maher and Cella, William Funnell and Billy Congo, Robert Smith and Voila IV as well as Michael Whitaker and Viking V. Nick Skelton, who recently won the Rolex Grand Prix in Aachen on Big Star is a name that surprisingly is missing on the team, but horseandhound.co.uk reports that  the British Equestrian Federation (BEF) said Nick “wasn’t getting any younger” and that Rio 2016 was the main target for him and Big Star.

To horseandhound.co.uk Nick Skelton says; “After much consideration and discussion with Gary, Beverley [Widdowson, owners] and Rob, I feel that it is in the best interest for Big Star to give him a year off from a Championship. It is our goal to try and reach Rio 2016 and conservative management will only help to this cause”.
