Saturday night’s Grand Prix of Al Shaqab went to Ludger Beerbaum, who could take home the first prize of 214.500€ after jumping one of only three triple clear round on Chiara (Contender x Coronado). “My horse likes the venue. This is my third show in Doha. In CHI Al Shaqab 2013 I came in fourth with Chiara and in the Global Champions Tour final I placed second. I’ve now come first so you can imagine how happy I am. My horse enjoys the ring, the facilities, the stabling, the warm up area. You don’t find better anywhere in the world. I’m delighted,” the German rider said after his win.
The second place went to Belgium’s Gregory Wathelet on Sea Coast Forlap DC (Querlybet Hero x Heartbreaker). Wathelet was also clear in all three rounds, but was over three seconds slower than Beerbaum against the clock. It was a good day for the Belgian riders as Nicola Phillippaerts ended third on Cortez (Quick Star x Quito De Baussy). Nicola was last to go in the jump-off and had the fastest time of the day, but on the expense of a pole down.
