The Horse Festival in Valkenswaard, Holland, has been one of the big equestrian events this weekend. More than 500 horses have been in attendance and thousands of knowledgeable equestrian spectators coming from all over the world has been following the show.

Sunday’s Big Tour Grand Prix saw Henk van de Pol on Kirfa de Kreisker (Papillon Rouge x Muguet du Manoir) go all the way to the top. Gerco Schröder was second on Eurocommerce Vigaro (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve x Renville), a very promising KWPN-stallion aged nine. The equaly talented stallion VDL Groep Vleut (Quick Star x Cantus )was third with Maikel van der Vleuten. Nine of the 51 riders in the Grand Prix were double clear.

“I wanted to win again today,” Henk assured us as he was preparing to head into presentations. “This mare has only been with me for two weeks and has placed already in Grand Prix’s recently. She is extremely capable as proven here today. It would be good to ride her next week in the Global Champions Tour, so I hope to see you here next week.”

Saturday’s Big Tour 1.45 class was won by Edwina Alexander. Riding her up and coming star Mel D’Argences Edwina took every shortened line with the Quick Star mare and was home free in a time of 67.41 to take the win.

Friday’s Big Tour 1.45 class saw the sun shining on the spectators and also on Gerco Schröder who won the class convincingly with the his GP-runner up Eurocommerce Vigaro. Of the stallion Gerco said; “He came to me 6 months ago from Roelof Bril. We have seen this good horse since he was a 4 year old being brought along nicely and now we had a chance to do something with him.” Gerco has already set plans for Vigaro; “I am doing big classes at smaller events and by the end of the year I have the plan to start him in classes in bigger international shows. Today was a good step. He is a very nice horse and very good in the mind. Over the summer we have been using frozen semen and his progeny on the ground are looking very good.”
