The IJRC will not ask for change in the 2012 GCT rules

Tuesday, 31 January 2012

The International Jumping Riders Club stands by its position, and will not support a change in the 2012 GCT rules. The Global Champions Tour requested the club to reconsider its position on the amount of counting results in the GCT 2012 following the clashes between the GCT legs and the Nations Cup Top League legs. The current rule is that a maximum fifty percent of the 2012 GCT competitions held, rounded up to the next whole number will count for points to establish the 2012 GCT overall classification. The GCT however would like 70 % to count, and have asked the IJRC to reconsider its support to the 50 % rule.

Following the request from the GCT organizers the IJRC organized a poll to get the opinion from their members. In order to have changed the position of the board, 50 % of the club’s members had to vote. The members were asked to choose between three options:

1) Support the IJRC position and the FEI decision, and take 50% of the total amount of the GCT legs into account for the final GCT ranking.
2) Support the request from GCT, and ask the FEI to reconsider its decision so that 70% of the total amount of the GCT legs is taken into account for the final GCT ranking.
3) No opinion.

The vote took place on 16-27th of January 2012. The participation has been 66%. The result was as follows: 68.3% of the voters (= 45.0% of those entitled to vote) chose option one, 30.0% of the voters (=19.8% of those entitled to vote) chose option two and 1.7%% of the voters (=1.1% of those entitled to vote) chose option three. Due to this result the IJRC states that they will not send any letter to the FEI.
