Richard Spooner – also known as the Master of the Faster – won the 1.45 VDL Groep Prijs on Billy Bianca (Vectha x Iroko) on Sunday. This was the speedy pair’s second win of the weekend, as they also won Friday's speed class. Spooner came in as number six to go, and got a great and extremely short turn to the combination at 3a and b – and then raced around the twelve fence track in his usual fast and accurate way. The time was fantastic; 1.57 seconds better than that off then leader Rik Hemeryck on Cantho Z (Cumano x Fidji du Fleury).
Henk van de Pol is always dangerous when there is speed involved, and on his winning horse from yesterday – Chesterfield – he set off in a high pace and crossed the finish line on 47.18 seconds to slot into second. Henk was pushed down to third though as Brazilian rider Luiz Fransisco de Azevedo really went for it on Cashmire D (Kashmir van Schuttershof x Forever) – and ended up 1.31 seconds behind Spooner to end up in second place.
