Sunday, 30 June 2013

The male team won. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Saturday evening in Aachen featured three entertaining classes. First it was the Best of Champions where one team of male riders competed against a team of female riders, before it was time for a speed derby class and then the accumulator. The evening was dominated by the men; first they won the Best of Champions class with Christian Ahlmann, Kevin Staut, Gerco Schröder, Steve Guerdat, Pius Schwizer and Marcus Ehning on the team before they went on to take home the top three positions in the two next classes as well.

Derby specialist Shane Breen won the speed derby aboard Ominerale Courcelle (Kannan x Caprice d´Elle II). With a clear and fast round, Breen made sure to leave second place to Guy Williams and Bijou van de Vijfheide (Darco x Laudanum XX) and third to Thomas Weinberg on Escobar (Escudo I x Grundsee).

The accumulator class went to Sergio Alvarez Moya on Abab van het Molenhof (Nabab de Reve x Calypso I). With a time of 53.58 seconds, the Spanish rider left Dermott Lennon to the runner-up spot on Hallmark Elite (Lord Byron Z x Renville) and Ben Maher to third on Aristo Z (Andiamo x Flamenco de Semilly).
