The riders for the Olympic individual final

Monday, 06 August 2012

Marcus and Plot Blue will compete in the final on Wednesday. Photo by © 2012 Ken Braddick/dressage-news.com.Thirty five riders have made it to Wednesday’s individual Olympic final in London. In the final all the riders will start on scratch, and no penalties are brought forward. Twenty of the best riders will qualify for a second final round. After both rounds the individual medals will be decided.

Three riders finished on a zero penalty score after the three first qualifying rounds; Nick Skelton on Big Star – considered a huge favorite for a medal on Wednesday, first time Olympian Maikel van der Vleuten on Verdi and his team-mate Marc Houtzager on Tamino. All three horses have looked incredibly fresh all week, but Big Star seems to be in a league of his own in London. Top riders such as Edwina Tops-Alexander, Ben Maher, Marcus Ehning , Kevin Staut, Jos Lansink, Steve Guerdat, Rich Fellers, Gerco Schröder, Rolf-Göran Bengtsson, Pius Schwizer, Ian Millar, Eric Lamaze and Rodrigo Pessoa have all made it through to the final.
