According to studforlife.com various Belgian newspapers report that three horses belonging to Ukrainian billionaire Aleksander Onishchenko have been seized by Belgian authorities. The horses were originally seized in 2007, following a decision from Belgian courts. One of the three horses that were seized was Katharina Offel’s former ride Nike, who unfortunately broke his leg in Brussels recently and had to be put down. The other two horses that have been seized - Belfast Knight and Bario van't Martendonkerf - will now be sold at a public auction by the Belgian authorities.
The background for the seizure is according to studforlife.com a history that began in 2007 on the airport in Bierset where Onishchenko was arrested with a suitcase full of cash and suspected by the police for using his horse business for the purpose of money laundering.
