It was a popular home win in the CSI3* Grand Prix in Donaueschingen on Sunday, as Toni Hassmann went to the top on Classic Man V (Cornet Obolensky x Gralshüter). The German rider had one of only three double clears in the class, and set an early target time in the jump-off when he stopped the clock on 40.23 seconds around the shortened track. None of those to come could catch the German rider, closest came Kristaps Neretnieks on Conte Bellini (Cornet Obolensky x Ramiro) who as last to go in the ring was 0.49 seconds behind Hassmann on the clock – but who nevertheless was very happy with his horse leaving the ring.
Third – with the last double clear of the day – was Marc Houtzager on the only eight year old Baccarat (Padinus x Silvio I). The fastest time of the day belonged to yesterday’s Championat-winners Gert-Jan Bruggink and Vampire (Marome Nw x Voltaire), but on the expense of a rail down – with the Dutch rider having to settle for fourth in this seven horse jump-off.
