Training session in the Olympic arena

Friday, 03 August 2012

The warm-up tonight was probably the only time reserve rider Olivier Philippaerts and Cabrio van de Heffinck was seen in the arena. This evening the show jumpers were allowed to jump in the main arena and every rider got 90 seconds to spend how they wanted to. A course with nine fences and ten jumps were set up in the arena. There was one combination an oxer - vertical, and one overbuild water jump among the jumps.

Some riders jumped the course as it was built while other riders chose their own lines. Most of the riders jumped the combination and very few riders jumped the overbuild water. A couple of riders didn't jump at all and spend their 90 seconds to ride around and show their horses the arena.

The reserve riders were also allowed to jump in the warm-up, but this was the only time five riders could jump for one country during the Games.

Tomorrow's course will be 1.40 - 1.60 high were at least two verticals have to be 1.60 meters. The course will have twelve fences and three combinations - two oxer - verticals and one combination consisting of a vertical as the a-element and an oxer as the b-element.
