Twenty two riders have moved on to the second round of the Olympic individual final to fight on for the medals. The lowest ranked riders are on a five penalty score, and include Cassio Rivetti/Temple Road, Paul Estermann/Castlefield Eclipse and Rich Fellers/Flexible. Estermann was especially unlucky in the first round with only a tiny foot in the water. Nine riders are on four faults; and out of these Rodrigo Pessoa’s Rebozo jumped amazing in the first round with a foot in the water – while Simon Delestre/Napoli du Ry, Alberto Michan/Rosalia La Silla, Alvaro de Mirand/Rahmannshof's Bogeno, Ian Millar/Star Power, Daniel Bluman/Sancha, Edwina Tops-Alexander/Itot du Chateau, Ben Maher/Tripple X and Marc Houtzager/Tamino also produced great rounds, but had a fence down each.
Four riders are on a one penalty score after a time fault; Luciana Diniz/Lennox, Gerco Schröder /London, Pius Schwizer/Carlina and Kamal Bahamdan/Noblesse des Tess all had great rounds over Bob Ellis' very technical twelve fence track.
Six riders are left on a zero score ahead of the second round. The first clear of the day came from a very happy Cian O’Connor on Blue Loyd, then followed Olivier Guillon on Lord de Theize two riders later. Steve Guerdat on Nino des Buissonnets was also clear after a fantastic round, as was Scott Brash on Hello Sanctos who was cool as ice on home soil. Marcus Ehning rode a text book clear on Plot Blue, and Nick Skelton and Big Star did yet another amazing clear round – what a horse and rider! The second round starts at 14.55 GMT.
