Constant van Paesschen won Sunday's 1.55 Azcar Trophy in La Coruna, riding Citizienguard Cadjanine Z (Canabis Z x Feinschnitt I Z). With no seat left in the whole of the Equestrian Centre in Arteixo, the competition saw an incredible eighteen riders go clear to move on to the jump-off that ended up as a very fast affair all the way down to the final rider.
Egyptian rider Karim El Zoghby opened the jump-off with a very fast time of 41.67 seconds, and it looked like it would be hard to beat as one rider after another tried to catch him but without succeeding. Ukraine's Katharina Offel was the first who managed to push El Zoghby down, being 21 hundredths of a second faster aboard Quebracho Semilly (Le Tot de Semilly x Eiken de Fontenis). The win would belong to 20-year Constant Van Paaschen though, who raced around the shortened track as second-last-to-go to be 12 hundredths of a second quicker that Offel to take home the win.
It was a very good day for Offel though, who clinched the win in the 1.45 Trofeo Prosegur aboard Charlie (Cornet Obolensky x Potsdam). With a double clear round, and a phase two that was nearly a second faster than that of Harrie Smolders on Enjoy Louis (Coriano x Kannan) the Ukrainian rider collected the top prize. Third place went to Edwina Tops-Alexander on Questina (Quidam's Rubin).
