WoSJ Close-Up; Cella

Thursday, 31 July 2014

In this WoSJ Close-Up, we take a look at Ben Maher’s amazing success-mare Cella. All photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.

Cella is bred by Marc Kluskens, who is the man behind the many famous Van’t Roosakker-horses.  This year the BWP studbook awarded Kluskens. When Cella was born she was given the name Centoia van’t Roosakker. Her mother is Usha van’t Roosakker, and her father the famous Cento.  Cella’s mother has other famous babies too; Equador van’t Roosakker and Babbe van’t Roosakker. Cella’s birthday is on the 25th of June. She just celebrated her 12th birthday.  She is owned by Jane Clark. Before Ben rode her, she had Mario Deslauriers in the saddle.  She and Ben were ranked as 2013’s best combination in jumping.  In 2013 she won team gold at the European Championships for Great Britain, and individual silver.  She has won an incredible amount of classes, here in Aachen.  Following the Europeans, Ben said this about her; "Cella is more of a machine than a horse. She is amazing, she’s temperamental sometimes – but she knows her job."  Cella and her groom Joy.
