WoSJ Close-Up; Cornet d'Amour

Tuesday, 28 October 2014

This time around, the WoSJ Close-Up goes to one of our favourite horses! Meet the lovely Cornet d’Amour! All photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.

Cornet d’Amour was born the 4th of April 2003, and given the name Contanga which was later changed into his current name.  Cornet d’Amour was bred by Alfred Niehoff. The gelding is by Cornet Obolensky and out of the mare Daquiri by Damiani.  Before Daniel Deusser got the ride on Cornet d’Amour, Pedro Veniss competed him.  Cornet d’Amour was introduced to Daniel Deusser in May 2012, a few months after Daniel started working at Stephex Stables. “Cornet was for sale, and came here to Stephex Stables – a few people came to try it him but it really didn't work so well,” Daniel explained to World of Showjumping earlier this year on how the two became a pair.   Since the spring of 2013 Cornet d'Amour has been owned jointly by Stephex Stables and Double H Farm.  "Cornet has an amazing head; he wants to jump clear," Daniel has told World of Showjumping.  Daniel has a very special relationship with Cornet d'Amour; "I grew up with Cornet - he was the one that took me to the championships so he is of course very special to me." In April 2014 Daniel and Cornet d’Amour became World Cup Champions when they won the final in Lyon. “Cornet d’Amour has a fantastic personality. He is such a kind and easy horse, and a horse that everybody seems to like,” says his groom Jenny Rägdell Lagerqvist. The pair has several huge wins – the Grand Prix in Wien, the World Cups in Wellington and Mechelen and the Nations Cup in Calgary are a few to mention. Daniel and Cornet d'Amour also have a team silver medal from the European Championships in Herning in 2013... ...and the same year they were crowned German Champions. "Winning the German Championship on Cornet d'Amour was amazing," Daniel said to World of Showjumping earlier this year. The beautiful Cornet d'Amour - a horse of a lifetime.
