WoSJ Close-Up; Cortes 'C'

Saturday, 27 December 2014

There are so many highlights in the career of this horse. Cortes ‘C’ has been an outstanding athlete in the world of showjumping, and is next up in our WoSJ Close-Up series. All photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.

Cortes ‘C’ was born 24th of April 2002. He is by Randel Z out of the mare Orchidee van de Tombeele by Darco. Cortes ‘C’ is bred by Bart Clement. Cortes ‘C’ is now successfully ridden by Beezie Madden.  Before Beezie rode the gelding, it was Belgium’s Gregory Wathelet riding him. With Wathelet, Cortes ‘C’ took the step into the big sport and in 2010 the two ended second in the World Cup in Mechelen. Not long after, the horse was sold and Beezie took over the reins.  This year Cortes ‘C’ was named the best jumping horse at the World Equestrian Games after jumping clear rounds with all four riders in the final.  On watching Cortes 'C' with the other riders Beezie said: "It was fun to watch my horse jump with the other riders, they are fantastic riders." Of Cortes ‘C’, Beezie has said: "He's like a big puppy dog. He loves attention from people. He'll put his head right in your lap. I think he'd love to be a lapdog in his next life. He'll let you know if he doesn't like something though. He'll make that very clear." In 2011, Beezie and Cortes ‘C’ recorded their first big win together – in the Grand Prix in Valkenswaard.  Cortes ‘C’ also has big wins from Calgary, Wellington, Chantilly, Hickstead and Lexington.  The super cute face of Cortes 'C'!   "He's been amazing all year,” Beezie said after the World Equestrian Games.   In 2014 Cortes ‘C’ won both individual and team bronze at the World Equestrian Games in Normandy. He has become one of the true stars of the sport!
