WoSJ Close-Up; Hello Sanctos

Saturday, 04 October 2014

In this WoSJ Close-Up we take a look at the horse that is ranked the world’s best at the moment, topping the FEI WBSFH World Ranking List – we are of course talking about Hello Sanctos. All photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.

Sanctos original name is Sanctos van het Gravenhof, but it was changed to Hello Sanctos which is the prefix used by his current owners Lord and Lady Harris as well as Lord and Lady Kirkham.  Sanctos was born 13th of May 2002 in Belgium. His breeder was Willy Taets. He is by Quasimodo vd Molendreef, out of the mare Nasia van het Gravenhof by Nabab de Reve. In 2014 Sanctos was awarded Horse of the Year of his studbook sBs. Before Scott got Sanctos, he was ridden by Peter Wylde and then by Katharina Offel – before then owner Alexander Onischencko sold the horse to Brash’s supporters. Already in 2011 he showed his winning ways when Offel was victorious in the four star Grand Prix in Geesteren with him. With his now rider Scott Brash, Sanctos has had massive success….

…winning the team gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games…

…the team gold and the individual bronze at the 2013 European Championships..

… Grand Prix classes in Doha, Cannes, Estoril, London, Wellington and Oslo...

…World Cup classes in Wellington and Oslo...   …as well as a Nations Cup in Dublin. Scott on Sanctos: “He really is the horse of a lifetime for me. What he has done for me, his owners and his country is really outstanding. You don’t get too many horses like that!” Scott has described Sanctos as very clever and sharp; “At home he is quite lazy. He’s a little bit like ‘Do I really have to do this?’ – but when he gets into the ring he just knows his job. He is so careful, and he gives you his heart – he is a special, special horse.” And finally: Sanctos with his groom Hannah.
