WoSJ Close-Up; Ursula XII

Wednesday, 18 June 2014

Together with Scott Brash, this is the horse that rules the world at the moment. While Brash does not move from the top of the Longines Ranking, Ursula XII also stays firmly on top of the FEI WBFSH World Ranking - echoing her rider. All photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.

Ursula XII is Scottish bred - just like Scott. Ursula XII's breeder is Mrs Mary Turnbull. Ursula XII was born 28/04/2001, and is by Ahorn.  Her mother is Paloma by Papageno. Ursula XII is owned by Scott's faithful supporters Lady Harris & Lady Kirkham. Ursula XII has been ridden by Scott since the autumn of 2012. Ursula XII was placed second in no less than three Grand Prix classes in Wellington this winter, and has had huge success with Scott over the last year.  Last year she was runner-up in the Gucci Grand Prix in Paris, and in the World Cup in Verona. Not to forget that she was number three in the Longines FEI World Cup Final in Lyon in April this year. In an interview with the Scottish Mail, her breeder Mary Turnbull said that Ursula already stood out as a foal - being brave, inquisitive and forward thinking. According to her breeder she also jumped like a rubber ball the first time she went over a fence! Before Scott took over the reins on the mare... was Tina Fletcher that rode her. Ursula XII stayed with her breeders until she was ten years old, when she was sold to her current owners Lady Harris & Lady Kirkham. "She’s a joy to ride and she’s such a sweet horse in every way," Scott has stated about Ursula XII. Congrats to the two number ones in the world on their fantastic success!
