It is time for a new close-up on one of your favourites - this time we present the lovely Carlo 273! All photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.
Carlo 273 is a Holsteiner gelding. He is eleven years old and by Contender x Cascavelle. The breeder of Carlo is Hans Werner Ritters.Carlo is owned by Beverley Widdowson, who also owns Nick's ride Big Star. The fantastic gelding came from Jörg Naeve's stable in Germany. It was Laura Kraut who spotted Carlo at Jörg's."He takes a lot out of himself; he's a busy horse," Nick has said about Carlo."Carlo is very careful. He has all the jump and he has a great mind. He really wants to do it, so that makes my life easier." “He’s really nervous with horses coming towards him. He turns and runs the other way," Nick has explained about Carlo being terrified of big horses. "Carlo watches everything. He’ll see a dog move, a child walking, or a golf cart go by, but when he goes through the start, he’s a totally different horse. He lives on his nerves, but that’s probably what makes him so good. This horse could be a very serious good horse."Carlo and Nick got both team and individual bronze at the Europeans in Madrid.“I think he’s an exceptional horse. He’s very, very talented. He’s fantastically careful. He has all the scope, and he’s good to ride.”Carlo is not a fan of apples!Carlo gets bored in the stable and likes to work. "Carlo is a happy horse; he likes to jump," Nick has said. Carlo has several big wins on his record, such as the Longines Grand Prix in St Gallen and the Nations Cup in Dublin...... and he dominated at the WEF with several victories.Nick and Carlo are heading for the Olympics!Just look at him - Carlo, what a horse!
