WoSJ Close-up; Cevo Itot du Chateau

Sunday, 25 March 2012

We are going from one chestnut favorite to another - let us present Cevo Itot du Chateau! All photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.

Cevo Itot du Chateau is called Toti - Itot spelled backwards. Toti is born in 1996 and is a son of Le Tot de Semilly x Galoubet A. Itot du Chateau is owned by Edwina Alexander and Stall Tops. Edwina Tops-Alexander got Itot as a New Years surprise from her husband Jan Tops and Cees Van Opstal in 2007. The only 157 cm high chestnut is used to jump fences way bigger than himself and he has jumped straight in to the hearts of the spectators. "He doesn’t feel like he’s small as he holds himself high up in the front," Edwina says about the tiny gelding. But Itot's life could have ended dramatically thirteen years ago. If you take a close look at him you can see big scares on his face...... and on his shoulder. These are 'memories' after a terrible accident that Itot du Chateau had as a three year old when he jumped out of his field at his breeder in France and ended up running into a car. The car was totally destroyed and Itot badly injured, but after several operations the little chestnut survived the accident.Edwina and Itot are heading for the Olympics in London this summer.Toti seems to love Cannes: He won the Global Champions Tour there both in 2010 and in 2011. Itot had a longer break before the GCT in Cannes 2011 and he came back after the break as a winner!Edwina Tops-Alexander and Itot du Chateau also won the overall standing in the GCT 2011. “He feels like his ten, so as long as he feels good he’ll get to jump,” Edwina explains. “Itot is a power ball and a natural athlete – full of muscle! I just have to try and not do too much with him; it’s all about finding the right balance and keep ticking him over.”“We’ve done so much together and he knows me so well! And of course I know him as well. Itot has a huge character. During the time I’ve had him I’ve never ever been mad at him; he just gives me so much!” Edwina says about her lovely gelding. Itot seems like the sweetest horse ever, but he is shy and doesn´t like everyone. When strangers enter the stable he prefers to stand with his head in the corner of the box. A true superstar - Cevo Itot du Chateau!
