WoSJ Exclusive; A tribute to Vigo d'Arsouilles!

Saturday, 11 August 2012

This week it was known that Vigo d'Arsouilles will retire from the sport. This is our tribute to one of the biggest stars in the world of showjumping. All photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.

At the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky in 2010 Vigo d'Arsouilles and Philippe Le Jeune won the gold medal after fantastic performances.
In Kentucky the pair also won a team bronze medal for Belgium.
Vigo was bred by Viane Didier, and born on the 12thof May in 1998. Vigo was later sold to the well known breeder Joris De Brabander who runs Stal de Muze in Belgium, who still owns the stallion.

At one point after De Brabander bought Vigo, he actually resold him. The buyer was not interested in keeping him though, and De Brabander took the stallion back.

Le Jeune also rode Vigo’s father Nabab de Reve with great success, but what he achieved with Vigo was even bigger!

This is how we will remember Vigo: Always looking happy, with his ears pricked forward!

Philippe and Vigo were the perfect match!
Vigo's last competition was the Olympics in London. Unfortunately the stallion did not get to complete the Games due to a minor injury.
Vigo and Le Jeune started their international career together in 2008, and the two stuck together to the end!
“I wanted to finish in style with a great Olympic result. Unfortunately, fate has decided otherwise," Le Jeune said after the Games were over for him and Vigo.
Vigo will now devote himself to breeding only. The stallion has already proven to be a great sire, and has several approved sons.
Vigo will be remembered as a happy athlete!
Vigo d'Arsouilles has become a big favorite of the WoSJ-team, and we will miss seeing him and Philippe together...
...like here in Aachen...
...or here in Stuttgart.
Thanks for all the great memories Vigo!
