Marcus Ehning's supermare Anka (Argentinus x Waidmann) - winner of the World Cup Final in 2003 - got a foal by Cornado NRW (Cornet Obolensky x Acobat) earlier this summer, and World of Showjumping went to have a look at the fantastic foal as well as her siblings. All photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.
The little filly enjoying some time with her half-brother - by Cornado NRW out of Iris (Libero H - Le Val Blanc xx - Farn). Anka jumped her last show in Dortmund six years ago and already three weeks afterwards she was in foal. She was definitely ready to become a mum! Marcus has had Anka since she was six years old. She was always a very brave horse at shows, but at home she was spooky until the very last day she was ridden. In the ring Anka always did her very best, but to hand walk her or lounge her was impossible as she didn't move one stride of her own. Anka did her first Grand Prix in Frankfurt at the end of her seventh year. Because Marcus' top horses couldn't go to the show Anka came with, and when she qualified for the Grand Prix Marcus decided to go for it. Anka jumped jumped amazing and ended third. When it was time for the World Cup Final in Las Vegas in 2003 Anka was the one of Marcus’ horses that was picked out to compete. Marcus' sister Karina was at that time Anka’s groom, and on the flight over to the US the grooms made a bet and agreed that the groom of the winning horse had to pay a round of drinks. Karina gladly took part in the bet as she was positive Anka wouldn't win. Anka wanted it different though, and fought her way through all the rounds ending up winning the final. Judith Gölkel together with the gorgeous filly. Well, the little filly out of Anka is enjoying the photo shoot much more than Anka herself. The former superstar has now got five foals. Franky by For Pleasure is the oldest one at five years old. Then Sir Anka by Sandro Boy was born. Sir Anka is now spending his time in Sweden with Maria Gretzer to get ready for his jumping career. After that she had another stallion by For Pleasure. Anka’s fourth offspring is a stallion by Plot Blue, and after giving birth to this colt she had a gap year before she got an amazing filly by Cornado NRW. Anka is now in foal with Cornado again.
It is not easy to take a photo when everyone is curious about the phone... It is a brave little filly saying hi to everyone entering the field. We better keep an eye out for this little superstar!
