WoSJ Exclusive; Sylve Söderstrand on the Promotional League Final.

Thursday, 22 September 2011

Sylve Söderstrand is hoping for a win for Sweden. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Sylve Söderstrand, the Swedish chef d’équipe, tells WoSJ about Sweden’s chances in the final in the Promotional League in Barcelona; “We are going to Barcelona to win the final and I think we are going to do just that. Ukraine is of course dangerous, but I think we are a bit better. But we shall still not underestimate Canada. It probably will stand between these three countries.”

Most of the Swedish riders that were riding at the Europeans are going to ride in Barcelona as well. Henrik von Eckermann is the only one that will not ride so Peder Fredricson will go to the league’s final.

How much would it mean for Sweden to get back in the Top League next year? “Life will go on even if we don´t make it, but then it is going to be even trickier for us to get our riders to the best shows. We need the experience from these shows, and we need the riders to get prepared for the Olympics next year. Another thing is that it is important to be in the Top League to be able to influence changes in the league.”

“Sweden probably doesn’t have the horses or riders to be able to stay there, but that we’ll have to live with. It is an opportunity for us to go to eight big shows and then we can for example decide that three legs are for the best riders, some legs are for upcoming horses and riders, and some legs are for the riders that need more experience at that level. So for us it would be great to win the final and climb up to the biggest league again.”
