Dietmar Gugler has given us todays comments after an exciting round where the teams fought for medals and qualification for the Olympics.
On the course; The course is though, but good. It was the same course as yesterday, but the changes on the waterjump still made it different. The faults came everywhere, but especially the combination caused several faults today as well. The pressure is on. Today one saw that several of the individual riders without teams produced much better rounds than several top team riders as they had much less pressure. All over I liked it and it was the right winner - of course!
On the individual scores after three days; Of course Carsten-Otto is now an even bigger favourite. But things happen - suddenly today Billy had three down which is not usual. Same with Gregory Wathelet and his amazing horse who where clear yesterday. Nick can be dangerous as well. His horse is really good.
On the teams and their ups and downs today; All teams fought for the Olympic qualification today. It is important to all the teams because of the sponsors, the interest in the sport - everything. The Swedish horses jumped much better than the results looked like, but that’s how it is sometimes.
Thinking about your team and not just being an individualist is important to succeed as a team. Team work gives you back the best in the long run. Look at Ludger for instance. In 2005 he didn’t have any good horse to take to the Europeans in Mannheim, but he still let his partner Marco Kutscher ride Montender which was their best horse at that time. Montender and Marco won the individual gold that year. This year he has let Henrik ride Coupe de Coeur which has been important to Sweden and Henrik has done an amazing job.
Ireland has two of the most winning horses on their team and still didn’t make it today. They need to sit down and analyze now after two bad Championships.
For my own part I can say that I have been taken really good care of as a German owner in the Swedish team. Everyone has been so open and Sylve really listens to his team.
