Ben Maher – currently ranked as the world’s number one showjumper – won the LGT Vienna Masters on Sunday. Riding Urico (Zandor Z x Fedor), Ben was one of eleven riders that managed to produce a first clear round over Frank Rothenberger’s tricky track set at 1.55, and in the end he was joined by five other riders when it came to producing double clears.
Edwina Tops-Alexander and Erenice Horta (Diamant de Semilly x Parco) were the first to go clear in the second round, but the pair was soon pushed down by Michael Whitaker on Elie van de Kolmen (President x Darco) who stopped the clock at 45.06 seconds.
The next to deliver and take over the lead was Marcus Ehning who rode a terrific clear on the lovely stallion Cornado NRW (Cornet Obolensky x Acobat), and with his trademark accuracy Marcus produced a time of 44.12 seconds.
Ben Maher and Urico were last to go, and wasted nor the opportunity or any time. Although it did not look as fast as it rode, Ben managed to shave off almost two seconds of Ehning’s time finishing the track on 42.45 seconds to take home the win ahead of Marcus and Michael. Philipp Weishaupt ended fourth on Leoville 2 (Landor S x Wettruf), Gerco Schröder fifth and Edwina Tops-Alexander sixth.
