Wout-Jan van der Schans seals successful weekend for the Dutch in Barcelona to win the Queen's Cup

Sunday, 12 October 2014

Wout-Jan van der Schans and Capetown made it another Dutch win in Barcelona. Photo by CSIO Barcelona.Wout-Jan van der Schans rounded off a tremendous weekend for the Dutch riders in Barcelona by winning Sunday's Queen's Cup. With Capetown (Oklund x Carlino), Wout-Jan was reserve for the Dutch team that won Saturday's Furusiyya FEI Natins Cup Final – and today the sympathetic rider made sure to give the Dutch the best possible end on the event by winning the 1.50 class and also recording his third big win in one month with the 11 year old gelding.

Twelve riders went on to the jump-off after producing first clear rounds. In the end it was only fractions that separated the top two riders though, as Wout-Jan had only 0.07 seconds down to runner-up Daniel Deusser on Pironella (Non Stop x Pilot). Three more riders produced double clear rounds; Edouardo Alvarez Aznar on Rokfeller de Pleville Bois Margot (L'Arc de Triomphe) that ended third, fourth placed Jerome Hurel on Quartz Rouge (Ultimo van ter Noude x Qredo de Paulstra) and fifth placed Pieter Devos on Couscous van Orti (Nabab de Reve x Cash).
