Wout-Jan van der Schans wins the Grand Prix Tropicana in Fontainebleau on Capetown

Sunday, 22 June 2014

Wout-Jan van der Schans and Capetown - here seen in Den Bosch earlier this year. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Dutch rider Wout-Jan van der Schans made the most of his trip to Fontainebleau, France, when he won Sunday's four star Grand Prix Tropicana on Capetown. Van der Schans – who managed to secure the 11 year old gelding by Oklund x Carlino when he went for sale during the Eurocommerce-auction earlier this spring – has already showed winning mood in San Giovanni, Eindhoven and Arnhem the past two months, but today the pair notched up their biggest win to date in this 1.60 competition.

Van der Schans was over a second faster in the jump-off than runner-up Niklaus Rutschi on Windsor XV (Karandasj x Wellington), and then followed another Swiss rider as Nadja Peter-Steiner and Celeste 26 (Casall x Landgraf I) finished third over two seconds behind the winner. There were only four double clears in this 49 rider-class, and the last one belonged to home rider Timothee Anciaume on Quorioso Pre Noir (Kannan x Farandol II).
