Cobra 18 (Cornet Obolensky x Ramiro Z) is in Ireland for the coming season with frozen semen available for shipment throughout Europe.

By the legendary Showjumping stallion Cornet Obolensky and with an exceptional damline that includes the performance lines of Ramiro Z and Usurpator XX, Cobra 18 is a relatively new name in Showjumping breeding circles, but he is certainly making an impact.

Born in 2003 at the world famous Ligges Stud in Germany, this 172cm Bay Westphalian Stallion covered just a handful of mares as a 4yo, before embarking on his own Showjumping career. A horse with exceptional ability, Cobra 18 reached international 150 level before a career ending injury in 2014 forced his retirement to stud. But what was the sport’s loss is to be the breeders gain.

Of the small number of his early progeny, several have already reached an extremely high level. And one in particular - the 10 year old Dublin (Cobra 18 X Calido) - is emerging as one of showjumpings hottest prospects with World Number 1 – Kent Farrington. Described by Farrington as "spectacular” and “a horse with a big future”, Dublin is really starting to make his mark on the circuit, having won the $130,000 1.50m Championship at the CSI5* show in Florida this spring, placing 3rd in a very competitive top ranked class at Windsor International Horse Show and most recently winning a 1.50m class at the CSI5* Spruce Meadows show in Calgary in early July.

Since his retirement to stud in 2014, a growing number of performance breeders are choosing Cobra 18 for their breeding programs and he has a wonderful selection of youngstock on the ground. Jessica Mendoza, Team GB’s SJ reserve at the Rio Olympics, covered one of her performance mares with Cobra 18 last year and she recently had an impressive colt. Jessica commented “Cobra 18 has everything I look for in a top-class sport horse stallion – impeccable breeding, proven ability to the highest level and offspring already proving to be of world-class standard.”

Although Cobra 18 is standing at stud in Ireland for the coming season, frozen semen is available for shipment throughout Europe.
