During 2016, World of Showjumping will bring our readers regular news from the International Jumping Riders Club. Below is the latest newsletter from the IJRC.
"With only 10 days to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, more than ever the equestrian athletes and the people involved with equestrianism must be familiar with all the matters concerning the doping.
To show to the world a clean, proper and successful sport it is important to know the rules and the regulations that control our sport.
The International Jumping Riders Club with its Director Eleonora Ottaviani, has been working on this issue since 2009 because it feels the need to have greater clarity and to be more informed concerning the item of the medication/doping, that is so much discussed at the moment.
To work in a professional way in discussing this delicate argument the Club thought it is necessary to know horse health, pharmacology, toxicology as well that the legal issues (and all rules by FEI, WADA or other institutions or authorities).
The goal of this book is simply to clarify some items and to know the correct terminology in order to discuss the problems of medication/doping in a reasonable and smart way.
In this publication it was given priority to the methodology and scientific information without consider the wishes of the different lobby in the equestrian community, and considering the interdisciplinary of the mater we decided to prepare a “general glossary“.
The IJRC hopes this report could be helpful to work for the benefit of the sport and in respect of the Olympic Charter.
