It was Eric and Maikel van der Vleuten who continued the Dutch domination in Den Bosch in Saturday’s speed classes. In the 1.40 class Maikel rode an excellent clear and fast round aboard VDL Groep Sapphire (by Mr. Blue), to cross the finish line on 56.30. The grey mare jumped great, and although Henk van de Pol raced around the course to try and catch Maikel’s time, he and Flicka (by Carabas) had to settle for second. The third place went to Jeroen Dubbeldam on BMC Veyron (by Indoctro) – making it triple Dutch in the top, much to the joy of the home crowds.
The Speed Indoor Derby was set at 1.35 and was a table C class, where faults are converted to additional time. The course consisted of thirteen fences, and included a jump over a wall that led out in a corridor in between the stands and then into a new ring where two fences were jumped. Then it was full throttle back through the corridor into the arena. It was Eric van der Vleuten who set the fastest time of the day aboard VDL Groep Cannelina (by Carthago Z). With a clear round and a time of 83.12 nobody could catch him. Denis Lynch tried his best though, but Upsilon d’Ocquier (by Landetto) landed on a total time of 83.49. Dutch rider Jur Vrieling was third on Wadro’s Nerina.
