Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.After the first two legs of the Longines Global Champions Tour 2013, the overall standing sees Swiss rider Pius Schwizer on top. Pius has collected 56 points altogether in the two first legs, and he is followed by Luciana Diniz as rank two with 54 points. Rank three is Harrie Smolders on 54 points, then follows Kathi Offel on 51 points and Marcus Ehning on 48 points.

Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.The eight year old Chin Chin-son Chasmo won the Edsor Youngster Cup Final in Hamburg on Saturday. 30 horses were qualified for the final and today the course went over twelve fences and fifteen jumps. The line from fence six - seven - eight that was placed in front of the VIP tents caused a few problems - some horses got spooky, while some horses got problems with the distances. After a couple of days of jumping some of the youngsters also started to look a bit tired cantering around the huge arena. Seven horses cleared the first round and went on to the jump-off that was all about the time as all the horses cleared that part of the competition as well. 

Aaron Vale and Palm Sunday. Photo by Rebecca Walton.Aaron Vale and Palm Sunday ended on top in the 1.45m Open Jumpers at Kentucky Spring Horse Show yesterday. Schuyler Riley was the trailblazer aboard Andretti, owned by Southbeach Stables of Wellington, FL, but in an effort to leave all the rails in place she posted a conservative time of 38.112 seconds that would place fourth. Ian Millar and Baranus, owned by The Baranns Group of Perth, Ontario, were the next to leave all the fences intact, and they took home the third place honors for a time of 36.735.

Aaron Vale and Palm Sunday, owned by Amen Corner Farm of Folsom, LA, were the next to show over the short course and they blew by Millar's time. They easily maneuvered all the turns and had a nice, open gallop to dash across the finish line in a quick 33.611 seconds. Ireland's Andrew Bourns and Carmina attempted to best Vale's time. They were just a touch short of the winning time in 34.478 seconds to claim second place and seal Vale's victory.

Photo by © The Book LLC.The $25,000 New York Welcome Stake, presented by The Hakim Family, was the highlight event today at the Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Show. Held on the stunning grass Grand Prix Field, the class featured top show jumping talent. Pan American Games double gold medalists Christine McCrea and Romantovich Take One, owned by Candy Tribble and Windsor Show Stables, sped to the win in the class. The first week of the Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows continues through Sunday, May 12, and the second week runs May 14-19.

Photo by Roland Thunholm/FEI.Yesterday’s Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup in Drammen, Norway, saw the French team ending on top of the podium yet again. It was a close call though, with the Dutch team breathing the French riders in the neck all the way to the end. It was the anchor rider for France Timothee Anciaume that secured the win; the 34 year old had already produced a great first clear on Quorioso Pre Noir – a 9 year old stallion by Kannan. Timothee had one of only two double clears in the Nations Cup, the other belonged to French first rider Nicolas Delmotte on Number One d'Iso Un Prince (Baloubet du Rouet x Si Tu Viens). Together with Mathieu Billo on Pardoes (0-(9)) and François Xavier Boudan and Amadeus Z’s ((4)-4) performances it was good enough for the win as the team ended on a total score of four penalties, three ahead of the Dutch team at seven faults. Sweden ended third ahead of the hosts Norway in fourth.

The Irish squad of five, from whom Splaine will pick his team of four, is: Shane Breen with Balloon or Cos I Can, Shane Carey with  Ballymore Eustace, Capt. Michael Kelly with Annestown, Shane Sweetnam with Amaretto Darco and Billy Twomey with Tinka's Serenade.

Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Pius Schwizer and Rafale des Forets (by l'Arc de Triomphe) ended up on top in Friday's Youngster Cup in Hamburg. 65 horse and rider combinations lined up for the second qualification for the Edsor Youngster Cup. It was the Swiss rider that took home the first prize though, after a clear round in 65,66 seconds. Second went to Denis Lynch with Anyway II (No Limit x Farmer) who was one second slower than the winner.

Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Chef d’Equipes Rob Hoekstra and Rob Ehrens have picked their squads for the 5* Furisiyya Nations Cup in La Baule. The Nations Cup competition takes place next Friday. The British team will consist of; Scott Brash on Hello Sanctos, Tina Fletcher on Hello Sailor, Ben Maher on Cella, Nick Skelton on Big Star and Robert Smith on Voila. Frank Schuttert, Hendrik Jan Schuttert, Leon Thijssen, Albert Voorn and Albert Zoer have been picked to represent the Netherlands.

The class was set at 1,50 m and was against the clock. It was a track with eleven fences, thirteen jumps and a lot of space to let the horses gallop on the big grass arena. Daniel and Mouse - known for being very fast - were more than a second quicker than runner-up Denis Lynch on Quintus (Quick Star x Grannus).

Pablo Barrios and Zara Leandra.The 2013 Hagyard Challenge Series kicked off with a big win for Venezuela's Pablo Barrios and Zara Leandra during the $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic. Topping an 11-horse jump-off at the Kentucky Horse Park during the Kentucky Spring Horse Show, the duo made a dash for the cash that was uncatchable with a double clear effort in 38.258 seconds. Ireland's Richie Moloney was right on his heels with Slieveanorra to claim second, while Margie Engle and Indigo took home the third place award.

Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Yesterday's first Edsor Youngster Tour qualification in Hamburg was won by the Belgian rider Ignace Philips and Swing de Riverland (Diamant de Semilly x Saphir Rouge). The Yougster Tour was a 1,35 m class against the clock for seven and eight year olds.

65 pairs entered the ring and 30 were clear over the eleven jumps. Philips was the fastest one of them all, with about a second down to Christian Ahlmann on Cocktail (Calato x Exorbitant). Third place went to Patrick Stühlmeyer with Chasmo (Chin Chin x VDL Indoctro) and fourth to Emanuele Gaudiano with Caspar (Casper x Padarco).

Now I only have to buy half of the car from our sponsor, so of course I'm very happy. It is a fantastic car," Marc Houtzager said happily after winning a Mercedes CLA.

Marc also shared a little info about his horse Sterrehof's Uppity: "Uppity has mostly been going to shows as my second horse. It was only in Den Bosch that I took him with as a first horse and let him do the World Cup, as I wanted to ride him in the speed class in the final. He has a fantastic attitude, he is naturally fast and he always does his best."

Christian Ahlmann ended second with Lorena and said this on the press conference: "I'm really pleased with Lorena, it is the second time she jumps outdoors and she did it really great. Normally I would have been happy with being second, but today I'm a bit upset as I had the same thoughts as Marc about the car - but with me it will stay as a thought," Christian laughed. "But I believe that the audience got to see great sport and a really good jump-off."

Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.After a speedy jump-off Marc Houtzager took home the Mercedes-Benz Championat of Hamburg with Sterrehof's Uppity (Guidam x Epilot). It was a 1,55 m class and course designer Frank Rothenberger really gave the horses and riders a challenge. The triple combination as number three caused plenty of mistakes as several horses had problems with the plank on top of the a-element. But also the line from fence eight to the combination at nine a and b gave the riders a headache, with six or seven strides to the combination and then two really short strides between a triple bar and an oxer.

The top horses and riders from across the country have returned to the Kentucky Horse Park this week for the start of the Kentucky Spring Horse Shows. The first day of competition kicked off with the Open Jumper divisions in the Rolex Stadium. Olympian Reed Kessler led the way in the 1.45m Open Jumper class aboard Mika with a double clear effort, while the victory in the 1.40m Open Jumper speed class went to Pablo Barrios riding Colgate.

After the first two legs of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup division 2, Austria and Finland are in the lead with 75 points each. The two countries are followed by Sweden in third  and then Denmark and Belgium which are joint fourth.

Division 2 consists of sixteen teams. The teams can only count their scores from five out of the eleven legs. The next leg will take part in Drammen, Norway, the coming weekend. Italy, Norway, Sweden, Russia, Belarus, Finland and Turkey will battle it out for points in the third leg of the series.

The Mayor of London was yesterday joined by Team GB gold medallist, Nick Skelton, as they announced details of the LONGINES GLOBAL CHAMPIONS TOUR in the capital, set to be staged adjacent to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The LONGINES GLOBAL CHAMPIONS TOUR, the world’s leading show jumping championships, will be staged at The International Quarter, which is adjacent to the iconic Olympic Park from June 6 – 9th 2013.

Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.David Will and Colorit (Coriano x Capitol I) won the Grand Prix in Mannheim on Tuesday afternoon and proved that their World Cup win in Den Bosch was no coincidence. Ten riders made it to the jump-off, but only four of them managed a clear second round. David and the big jumping Colorit were the fastest combination just ahead of Lars Nieberg and Leonie W (Larenco x Grandeur). Albert Zoer and Wollie Bollie (Cantos x Zuidhorn) ended third, with Alberto Michan and Camilo LS La Silla (Portofino x Cor de la Bryere) in fourth.

Hans-Dieter Dreher and Angelina Herröder were awarded as the best riders of the show after good results throughout the long weekend in Mannheim.

Photo by Stefano Grasso/Longines Global Champions Tour.The Global Champions Tour in Madrid finished off the weekend with a double British win in Copa del Rey - Trofeo El Corte Ingles with Laura Renwick in the lead. Laura and Scott Brash were the only two clear riders, but as Scott and Hello Sanctos (Quasimodo V. Molendreef x Nabab de Reve) were about four seconds slower than Laura and Oz de Breve (Dollar du Murier x Grand Veneur) they had to settle for second place as there was no jump-off.

Athina Onassis de Miranda and Penelope Leprevost were also clear over the fences, but had respectively two and three time penalties, placing them as number three and four ahead of Athina’s husband Alvaro de Miranda in fifth place.

Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Nicola Philippaerts took a brilliant home win in the 4* Grand Prix in Lummen Sunday afternoon aboard Cortez (Quick Star x Quito de Baussy). The first round counted 50 starts, and top 15 got to ride a second round. A jump-off was also scheduled, but as Nicola was the only rider without penalties after two rounds the winner was already decided. Bernardo Alves and Cloud Nine II (Lando x Calido) came close to giving the spectators a jump-off though, but with one time penalty in round two they ended second ahead of Neriske Prinsloo and Bill Clinton (Clinton x Wunderbar) at two penalties.

The 4* Grand Prix in Baku Saturday evening went to Patrick Mc Entee and Zidane D (Heartbreaker x Calato) with Alexandra Lusina in second and Mazier Jamshid Khani in third.

After three exciting rounds, the British veteran was the only rider left on a zero penalty score – after producing one great round after another on a very well jumping Viking. Both runner-up Laura Kraut and third placed Alvaro de Miranda had faster rounds than Michael in the jump-off, but on the expense of a rail down each. It was a jump-off with some strong names in it – the top three were joined by Denis Lynch, Harrie Smolders, Luciana Diniz, Richard Spooner and Pius Schwizer who also produced clears in both the first and the second round.

The winners: Katharina Offel with Pour le Poussage. Katharina Offel went all the way to the top in Saturday's 1.45 accumulator class in Madrid. Kathi rode a super speedy and lovely round with Pour le Poussage (Polytraum x Ladalco) in the beautiful grass ring in Madrid, crossing the finish line with a full score of 65 and a time of 52,36 seconds. None of those to come could catch her. Second place went to William Funnell on Billy Congo (Vechta x Animo Elite) and third place to Maikel van der Vleuten with VDL Groep Zimba (Mermus R x Hemmingway). Always fast Harrie Smolders on Exquis Powerfee (Fedor x Erdball xx) ended on forth place.

She rode the eight year old Wotsamillion (Captain Clover x Atlantic Boy) to a safe win in 74,70 seconds. Second placed Tim Gredley on the seventeen year old Unex Omelli (Burggraaf x Equador) ended the course in 79.37 seconds and was followed by Tiffany Foster on Victor (Elmshorn x Grandeur).

The 1,50 m class against the clock was won by home rider Sergio Alvarez Moya and Abab van het Molenhof (Nabab de Reve x Calypso I). Sergio was three seconds faster than Marlon Zanotelli with Madame Butterfly (Corrado I x Lavall II) that ended second ahead of William Funnell on Billy Congo (Vechta x Animo Elite).

Both Marc Dilasser with Obiwan de Piliere Jo and Aymeric De Ponnat with Armitages Boy were double clear. France's fourth rider Olivier Guillon and Lord de Theize were clear in the first round and did not have to come to start in the second round as they had already secured the win with a clear round from Jerome Hurel and Ohm de Ponthual in the second round.

Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Switzerland took home the win in Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup in Linz today after a first round counting only 5 faults and a second round with 12 faults. Christina Liebherr and L.B. Callas Sitte Z was the best combination for Switerland with a clear first round. The team also consisted of Theo Muff with Leszek, Pascal Bettschen with Milor Landais and Claudia Gisler with Touchable.

Australia was in the lead after the first round with two clears and one rider at one time penalty. Unfortunately they were not able to hold on to their lead with 20 faults in the second round and they had to settle for second place. Australia's team consisted of Alison Rowland with Bickley Brook Bella, William James Passy with Yirrkala Cortina, Phillip Lever with Da Vinci's Pride and Rory Hovell with Yalambi's Val d'Isere VDL.

The event will welcome some strong names that include riders such as Edwina Tops-Alexander, Alvaro de Miranda, Kevin Staut, Penelope Leprevost, Ludger Berbaum, Marcus Ehning, Steve Guerdat and Sergio Alvarez Moya to mention some.

Simon Delestre won in Antwerp. Photo by galop.be.Simon Delestre and Valentino Velvet took home the four star Grand Prix at Jumping Antwerpen. Sunday’s Grand Prix had almost 50 riders at start, with only the top three going double clear. On the 11 year old Indoctro-stallion, the French rider stole the win from Dutch rider Harrie Smolders on the amazing stallion Emerald (Diamant de Semilly x Carthago) who eventually ended second. Only 0.12 seconds separated the two riders in the jump-off, with the times 37.68 seconds and 37.80 seconds. Switzerland’s Nadja Steiner rode to a surprising third on the nine year old mare Celeste (Casall x Landgraf I) - with a time of 43.66 seconds in the jump-off.

The Italian rider took home the win on the 16 year old Belgian bred Uppercut DS (Nonstop x Feinschnitt I), with one of only three clear jump-off rounds in this 1.50 class that counted about 40 riders. Gaudiano was over two seconds faster than runner-up Bronislav Chudyba aboard Concano (Come On x Grannus), while Andrzej Lemanski was third riding the lovely Bischof L (Bachus x Fernando).

Beezie Madden took home the World Cup title in Gothenburg. All photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.Yesterday Simon’s former rider Jeroen Dubbeldam showed up in Scandinavium and stated; ”I’ve come to Gothenburg to see Simon win” – well, he got what he came for as Beezie Madden rode the 14 year old Dutch gelding all the way to the top in today’s Rolex FEI World Cup Final. Beezie and Simon have been extremely consistent throughout the final; they were in the lead after Thursday’s first round, and in runner-up position after Friday’s second part of the competition. Today Beezie took the lead after the first round, and after being tied with Olympic Champions Steve Guerdat and Nino des Buissonnets (Kannan x Narcos II) following round two she came in as last to go in a heart-racing jump-off to land the win for America – making sure to follow up on compatriot Rich Fellers’ win last year.

On today’s courses; "Today it was a completely different world. Today you really needed a good jumping horse. I don’t think it was too much because the horses jumped well and the first two days were not over-done so the horses were still in a good shape. The first round was tough and needed a good plan. It had difficult lines, high fences and wide oxers. You saw today in the second round compared to the first round that the horses gave up a little and then you could see the real top athletes."

Aboard Cicero Z van Paemel (Carthago Z x Randel Z) Dirk was 0,8 seconds faster than runner-up Wilm Vermeir and D’Elia van het Molenhof (Up Chiqui x Weltruf) with another Belgian rider in third; Nicola Philippaerts and Cortez (Quick Star x Quito de Baussy).

Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.The Gothenburg Trophy presented by Carpe Diem saw three veterans on top with Ludger Beerbaum and Chaman (Baloubet du Rouet x I Love You) taking their second Grand Prix win in two weeks. Ludger was followed by Marcus Ehning riding Plot Blue (Mr. Blue x Pilot) and a very popular Rolf-Göran Bengtsson who made the crowds go crazy as he was double clear with Casall La SIlla (Caretino x Lavall I).

Out of 39 riders seven went clear around the 13 fence track with fence 12a and b towards the end of the course causing the most problems. The jump-off became a hard challenge as Ludger, Marcus and Rolf got company from Christian Ahlmann and Rich Fellers, all known for their short turns and brilliant riding. In addition to these five experienced riders Nayel Nassar and the young American talent Lucy Davis. also joined in.

Photo by galop.be.Home rider Pieter Devos and the 11 year old chestnut mare Candy (Nabab de Reve x Etretat) took home the biggest class at Jumping Antwerpen yesterday. The four star 1.50 class had 61 riders at start, out of which 12  went double clear. Devos was fractions faster than runner-up Rik Hemeryck - also he from Belgium - riding Papillon Z (Perhaps x Cassini I). Only 0.09 seconds seperated the two. In third came US rider Lauren Hough on her faithful partner Quick Study (Quick Star x What a  Joy),  who was a tiny 0.06 seconds behind Rik.

Rob Ehrens delivers the WoSJ Expert Comment! On the second day of the Rolex FEI World Cup Final WoSJ brings you Dutch Chef d'Equipe Rob Ehren's expert comment on the final.

On the course and the class; “It’s always a wrong thing to say that the class was easy, but the class was not really technical. It was a class where the course went really well; it was an easy going class. It was not some tricky things anywhere, when we walked it the course was massive and big – the verticals were high enough – but it was not technical. The time was not a critical thing either. You saw all this in the end – because we have good riders here – and we had fifteen clear rounds. But I think it’s good for the sport, and it was a good jump-off. After yesterday I expected something more technical today, something more difficult – and maybe seven to eight clears instead of fifteen. For the audience it was great though!

Beezie Madden – who won yesterday’s first round – is rank two overall with 1 point behind Luciana’s zero score. France’s Kevin Staut is rank three on 2 points ahead of home rider Rolf-Göran Bengtsson on 3 points and Dutch rider Marc Houtzager on 4 points.

All photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.Reigning Olympic Champion Steve Guerdat did an out-of-this-world performance at day two of the Rolex FEI World Cup Final aboard the incredible Nino des Buissonnets (Kannan x Narcos II), making it a Swiss win. It was all about amazing jumping, breathtaking performances, goose bumps and a few tears of joy today in Gothenburg – as the world’s top riders kept delivering one fantastic round after the other. Luciana Diniz – one of the most stylish riders in the world – delivered yet again to finish third on Lennox (Lifestyle x Grannus), with only Marc Houtzager between her and Steve. With another top result, the Portuguese rider went up in the lead overall in the World Cup after two rounds have been ridden. Following Luciana in the overall standings is yesterday’s winner Beezie Madden in second, and Kevin Staut who is overall third after another great day in the ring.

The 22 year old rode the chestnut mare Balahe (Baloubet de Rouet x Flamingo) to the fastest clear round of this speed class, ending his performance with a time of 50.19. Runner-up was Poland’s Jaroslaw  Skrzyczynski aboard Crazy Quick (Chacco Blue x Quick Star) almost four second behind, while Latvia’s Kristaps  Neretnieks was third on Continue (Contini x Libero H) – also he clear on a time of 55.94.

The happy winner of a new car in Antwerp - Gerco Schröder. Photo by galop.be.The BMW Masters class in Antwerp Thursday evening went to Gerco Schröder and Callahan (Contendro x For Pleasure).  In a class where the winner basically "took it all", Gerco was the lucky rider to drive home in a sporty new BMW. Only ten riders were allowed to start, and as the fences got higher Gerco and Katharina Offel were the only two to clear the course all five times. Laura Kraut had four clear rounds ending as number three after some problems with Nouvelle (Solitair x Contango) in the fifth round.  Billy Twomey is finally back competing at high level and could secure fourth place after three clear rounds with Je t'Aime Flamenco (Flamenco de Semilly x Landetto).

Rob on course designer Uliano Vezzani’s track on day one of the Rolex FEI World Cup Final; "It was a nice course. It was not overdone in height and spread of the fences.You could also see that on the results. You needed a good plan; at some lines you could take a turn inside, and there were also lines where you could leave out a stride if you knew your horse well and was in good control. So it was a nice fair course."

All photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.Beezie Madden made sure to secure America the lead in the Rolex FEI World Cup Final today on Simon (Mr. Blue x Polydox). The US team has arrived with a strong field of riders to defend the title won by Rich Fellers and Flexible (Cruising x Safari) last year, and made sure to make their presence noted not only by taking home the win in the class – but by ending up with another five of their in total eleven riders with ribbons. It’s an understatement to say that it was a US domination on the first day in Gothenburg. The home riders performed excellent as well, with Rolf-Göran Bengtsson doing a picture perfect round on Casall La Silla (Caretino x Lavall I) to finish third and Jens Fredricson ending 7^th in addition to Henrik von Eckermann placing as number 15 – as well as Malin Baryard-Johnsson being clear on a fantastic jumping H&M Tornesch (Lux Z x Libero H). In between Beezie and Rolf was number three from last year’s World Cup Final Pius Schwizer, on Verdi III (Hors la Loi II x Cantus).

The Rolex FEI World Cup Final is ridden over competitions held Thursday, Friday and Sunday. The first part of the final, the Rolex FEI World Cup™ Final I, will be a table C class ridden over a 1.50 course. Faults for fences down will be converted into additional time, and the winner is the rider with the fastest time. The winner of the class gets one point more than the total number of starters in the first competition of the final, the runner-up gets two points less than the winner, the third placed rider three points less, and so on.

The starting order for tomorrow’s first round of the Rolex FEI World Cup Final has just been drawn. The list looks as follows;

Gothenburg Horse Show kicked off today with two international showjumping classes. The first class of the day went to Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum and her veteran Checkmate (Contender x Pik Bube II). A lot of the riders used the 1.40 class as an opportunity to give their horses a feel of the arena, and very few of them gave full speed. The 18 year old Checkmate does no longer really need any introduction to the surroundings when he comes to a show, and easily took home the victory with the fastest time of the day. Meredith was followed by Kristaps Neretnieks in second on Conte Bellini (Cornet Obolensky x Ramiro), and Edwina Tops-Alexander on Erenice Horta (Diamant de Semilly x Parco) in third.

Elizabeth Gingras and Floreen SFN hinted at a promising spring and summer season with a win in the $40,000 HITS Grand Prix. ©ESI PhotographyFresh off a fantastic tour at the HITS Desert Circuit, Canadian high-performance rider Elizabeth Gingras scored an impressive triumph aboard B Gingras Equestrian’s Floreen SFN in the $40,000 HITS Grand Prix, presented by Zoetis, to cap a solid week for the maple-leaf nation during the Commonwealth National. “Lizzie has a tremendous work ethic,” said trainer Jill Henselwood. “She is always trying to improve and get better. I believe that she is on the verge of becoming a force to be reckoned with wherever she competes.”

Photo © Mancini Photos.Equestrian Sport Productions LLC (ESP) concluded its third week of competition for its 2013 spring horse show circuit this week at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC) in Wellington, FL. The highlight class of the week was the $25,000 ESP Spring 3 Grand Prix, where Ireland's Paul O'Shea guided Michael Hayden's Primo de Revel to victory against a 45-horse field. Steve Stephens of Palmetto, FL, was the course designer in the International Arena for week three of the spring circuit. Stephens set a challenging track that saw nine horses advance to the jump-off and only three clear rounds over the short course.

Gert-Jan Bruggink and Primeval Dejavu. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Gert-Jan Bruggink became Dutch Champion yesterday aboard Primeval Dejavu (Heartbreaker x Ramiro Z). It was a strong field of riders that had entered the championship and about every single top Dutch showjumping name could be found in Mierlo this weekend. Best of them all was Bruggink though, who ended the championship on an overall score of 5.04. Leon Thijssen took home the silver, riding Tyson (Numero Uno x Voltaire) to a total score of 5.91 – while veteran Albert Voorn rode to bronze on Tobalio (Numero Uno x Jacorde).

Photo by Tomas Holcbecher.The only 3* Grand Prix this weekend took place in Lummen and went to home rider Jeroen Appelen and Enjoy (Clinton x Pion). 16 riders went on to the jump-off in Lummen, where Appelen was nearly two senconds faster than runners-up Trevor Coyle and Clever Lady (Cassini I x Limbus). Dayro Arroyave and Eldorado van het Vijerhof (Thunder van de Zuuthoeve x Omar)  were third with Fidel Sigovia and Wrangler II (Padinus x Burggraf) in fourth. The fastes time of the day belonged to Romain Duguet and Le Prestige St Lois (Quidam de Revel x Grand Veneur), but with four faults they had to settle for fifth place.

In Magna Racino the 2* GP went to the young Irish talent, Bertram Allen and Billy Twomey’s former rider, Romanov (Heartbreaker x Fedor). Two German riders followed in second and third place with Rüdiger Renner and Andreas Knippling on their respective horses Caspar 194 (Conterno Grande x Cordial Medoc) and Cassius 56 (Canturo x Aloube Z).

Photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.Living legend John Whitaker landed the victory in the four star Grand Prix in Hagen on Sunday riding the 11 year old stallion Argento (Arko III x Gasper). The Grand Prix also served as the first leg of the DKB-Riders Tour 2013. It was a win that came by the closest of margins though, as John had Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum breathing down his neck only 0.1 seconds behind him in the second round. Thirteen riders moved forward from the first to the second round. Twelve of these were clear in the first round, and John’s son Robert Whitaker was the fastest four-faulter that got to join them in the chase against the clock in front of a record-crowd at this wonderful event.

Six legs of the tour remain, and these take place in Hamburg, Wiesbaden, Münster, Paderborn, Hannover and Munich. Last year it was Luciana Diniz who won the title, ahead of Marcus Ehning and David Will.

I've try to produce him slowly because he is so careful. He is one of Arko's first offspring and he is fantastic. Maybe he hasn't got the skills for the absolute biggest classes, but in these classes he is really competitive!"

Runner-up Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum on Unbelievable; "Unbelievable has been with me since the end of last year. He was previously ridden by Peter Wylde, but was injured for 1,5 years before I got him. So he is kind of a new horse for me. He has an amazing talent and today we could also see that he is fast. He developed a lot during the two months we were in the US. Even if he is big he suits me - he has a lot of power."

Photo by Karl-Heinz Frieler.Switzerland’s Janika Sprunger and Uptown Boy (Odermus R x Joost) won yesterday’s qualification for the first leg of the DKB-Riders Tour in Hagen. The four star 1.50 class had 57 riders in it, and there were six double clear rounds. The super fast Swiss rider had a time of 35.53 seconds in the jump-off, with Albert Zoer coming closest at 36.07 seconds aboard Sam (Calvados x Ahorn Z). Home rider Jan Wernke was the best German in the class, and ended third on Queen Mary 10 (Contendro I x Caretino).

25 year old Janika was grateful about Uptown Boy’s cleverness after the class after the gelding did some good jumping over the final oxer. "There was a little misunderstanding on the penultimate fence, as we didn’t get a perfect stride so the distance to the last oxer wasn’t ideal. But Uptown Boy solved it himself,” said a happy Janika. The daughter of the former Swiss top rider Hansueli Sprunger is after her win yesterday the last rider out in the Grand Prix on Sunday; "I'll watch some of the riders go, but in any case Marcus Ehning," revealed Janika.

Photo by Longines Beijing Equestrian Masters.It was Laura Kraut and the 12 year old KWPN-stallion U-Prova (Lorentin I x Corofino) that took home the Grand Prix at the Longines Beijing Equestrian Masters. The biggest class of the show counted 35 riders – the majority were Chinese – and in total nine riders were clear over the first round 11 fence track that concluded with a triple combination that consisted of a vertical-oxer-vertical. Due to the quarantine rules in China, the riders from Europe and the US all competed on borrowed horses – but that did not prevent four of them from joining the jump-off.

Second place went to Christian Ahlmann and third to Laura Kraut. Due to the quarantine rules the riders from Europe and the US all compete on borrowed horses, and their competitors are the best riders in China.

The Belgian rider has announced on his Twitter account that he will be heading for Gothenburg next week, after being contacted by the FEI this afternoon. This should also mean that the riders ranked before him in the Western European League – Nick Skelton, Jeroen Dubbeldam, Ben Maher and Maikel van der Vleuten – all must have passed on a chance to compete in the final.

William Whitaker and Fandango (Last Liberty x Krocket) were unbeatable in the Grand Prix at the Toscana Tour today. Only four riders cleared the two rounds that were set at 1.60, and William was two second faster than runner-up Oleg Krasyuk with SIEC Ledgepoint (Lancer II x Capitol I) in the second round. Massimiliano Ferrario with Loro Piana Acamar (Acobat I x Bayardo) ended third and fourth place went to Hendrik Denutte on Espadon van de Kranenburg (Kimball x Quito de Baussy).

In Gorla Minore the CSI3* Grand Prix went to Marc Bettinger and Zydoctro VD Kapel (Indoctro x Landwind), ahead of Italian rider Marco Porro and Comombea (Flashy x Lux Z) in second and Werner Muff with Landthago (Landjunge x Carthago) in third.

Olivier Guillon took home the CSI2* Grand Prix in Villers Vicomte Breteuil with Walda Z. Guillon was almost two seconds faster in the jump-off than second placed Thibault Destrebecq with Phebus de la Tourelle. Third place went to Aymeric Azzolino with Ravala Cece.

Photo by McCool Photography.With grand prix prize money increased by over 20% for week three of the Blenheim Spring Series, internationally renowned course designer Leopoldo Palacios intentionally built a tough track. "From the three weeks this is the week with the most money. I needed it to be a touch harder than the other weeks. The field of riders is good, so I built a more difficult course."

Thirty-nine pairs attempted to master the tight time allowed, distance and scope challenges, including a flowing first line, a bending line from three to a light skinny plank jump as the fourth obstacle followed by a triple combination set at a tough angle directly off the arena fence. Lines got tighter towards the end of the course, making the time allowed a factor. This technicality caught up with three riders who had no jumps down but finished with time faults.

Ludger Beerbaum on Chaman (Baloubet du Rouet x I Love You) and Rolf-Göran Bengtsson aboard Quintero La Silla (Quantum x Chamonix) were only split up at the very end by the super stylish 18 year old Reed Kessler on Cylana (Skippy II Darco), whose next challenge will be the World Cup Finals in Gotheburg where she yet again will compete against Rolf. The sport showed itself from its best side in sunny Paris today, and few shows can match the stunning location in the Grand Palais.

Photo by Cindy Voss - www.cindyvoss.de.Katharina Offel and Cathleen 28 (Cordobes I x Ramiro’s Son) took home the win in Sunday morning’s Prix de la Ville de Paris at Saut Hermès. Being the Grand Prix winners from last year’s event here, the two managed to yet again bring home a victory from the Grand Palais. The Ukrainian rider has been riding great the entire weekend, and today she was unbeatable around the two phased 1.50 track - none of the super fast riders coming after her could catch up. Coming in as number 21 out of 32 riders, Kathi did a phenomenal second phase to cross the finish line on 26.41.

Photo by Cindy Voss - www.cindyvoss.de.When the notoriously fast Hans-Dieter Dreher enters a class with two horses – as he did in today’s Prix GL Events – the rest of the field of riders should look out. And that was exactly was Dreher made his competitors do today, as he came in as number eight to go in this class that counted 49 riders – where several entered with two horses. Dreher produced a fantastic clear around the 1.45/1.50 track on Galmbacher SPZ’s incredibly well jumping stallion Embassy II (Escudo I x Silvio I). Hansi was one of the riders that chose to take out strides on the related distances to the two combination, and with great success as he stopped the clock at 53.62. The German rider took the lead and stayed there throughout the class.

Photo by Cindy Voss - www.cindyvoss.de.The winning formula in today’s team competition in Paris consisted of putting together two of the most stylish riders in the world; Penelope Leprevost and Marcus Ehning. This French/German mixture had all it took to end up on top in the Le Saut Hermès – precision, smoothness and speed. Aboard Genevieve Megret’s lovely Swedish bred mare Nice Stephanie (Cardento x Ralme Z) and Kathrin Somogyi’s and Marcus' own super experienced stallion Plot Blue (Mr. Blue x Pilot) – there was nothing to do about the two. The pair was one of three to be faultless after the first round; followed by five teams on four faults, one on eight and the last out of the competition after Michel Robert withdrew.

Photo by Cindy Voss - www.cindyvoss.de.No one could catch the speed phantom Roger Yves Bost on home soil in the Grand Palais Friday afternoon. As number six to go in the Prix Hermès Sellier, Bosty steered the 15 year old stallion Castle Forbes Vivaldo VH Costersveld (Clinton x Randel Z) to a time that proved impossible to beat for those 32 riders that were next to come. With incredible turns all the way, and his usual speed – Bosty crossed the finish line on 54.66 seconds – much to the celebrations of the home crowds. It was all about turning in this 1.50 speed class, and nobody did it better than the notoriously fast Frenchman who made sure the Marseilles was played in the Grand Palais today.

The 11 fence course – that included two combinations and a wall as the last fence – proved tricky enough, with 16 out of 38 combinations going clear. Plenty of the horses jumped great today, and looked dangerous for the classes to come – such as H&M Tornesch (Lux Z x Libero H), Plot Blue (Mr. Blue x Pilot), Silvana HDC (Corland x Widor), Sterrehof’s Uppity (Guidam x Epilot) and Charlie (Cornet Obolensky x Potsdam) to mention some. All were clear, but not all of them in the ribbons.

Winner and Louise Saywell enter the prize giving cermony. Great Britain’s Louise Saywell was shining in today’s Les Talents Hermès in Paris. This was a class for riders under 25 years of age. Aboard the aptly named Winner (Sjimmie x Noncorde), Saywell took home the 1.45 class. The beautiful grey and his British rider came in as last to go, snatching the victory from Ireland’s super talented Bertram Allen on Molly Malone V (Kannan x Cavalier). Victoria Gulliksen brought home yet another Hermès blanket to her family when taking home third on Urval (Hattrick x Elcaro), who jumped super under the vaulted glass roof of the Grand Palais.

Photo by Cindy Voss - www.cindyvoss.de.Qatar’s Bassem Hassan Mohammed claimed the Prix du Grand Palais at the Saut Hermès in Paris on Friday. Aboard the Belgium bred 11 year old gelding Cantinero (Cento x Cash), Bassem left all the poles intact around the two phased thirteen fence track that included two combinations; one in the first phase at 5a and b (oxer – vertical) and one in the second phase as the last challenge at 13 and b (vertical – oxer). This special class allowed all riders to move on to the second phase, bringing the penalties from the first phase with them in the round against the clock that started directly after fence seven.

Photo by Mancini Photos.Equestrian Sport Productions LLC wrapped up its first week of spring competition this weekend at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, FL, with an exciting victory for Ireland's Darragh Kerins and S&L Farms' S&L Elite in the $25,000 ESP Spring 1 Grand Prix. The week's jumper courses in the International Arena were designed by Richard Jeffery of Bournemouth, England. In Sunday's grand prix, 28 entries contested the course with three qualifying for the jump-off. Sharn Wordley chose not to return for the jump-off with Filip Amram's Quick Blue Z and finished in third place.

Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.The 1.50 Grand Prix in Lanaken went to Harrie Smolders and a very well jumping Emerald (Diamant de Semilly x Carthago). The nine year old stallion looked like a  future championship horse around the Ratina Z arena in Lanaken Monday afternoon. The Grand Prix was set with thirteen fences, one oxer-vertical combination and a triple combination with a vertical followed by two oxers. Twelve out of the 62  riders competing were clear and went on to the jump-off. In the second round six of them again produced clear rounds fighting for the car that in the end was taken home by Harrie.

Laura Renwick and Oz de Breve were by far the best in Hardelot Sunday afternoon. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.The CSI3* Grand Prix in Hardelot went to Laura Renwick and Oz de Breve (Dollar du Murier x Grand Veneur) after two clear rounds and the time 43,12 in the jump-off. Renwick was 0,8 senconds faster than runner-up Trevor Breen and Adventure de Kannan (Kannan x Ladalco) in second place, and 0,85 seconds faster than Shane Breen and Balloon (Balou du Rouet x Landcapitol) in third.

Here seen in Bordeaux. photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.On the Mediterranean Tour in Valencia it was French dominance in Sunday’s Grand Prix as three out of the top four riders represented the French colors. Best of them all were Michel Robert and Nenuphar’Jac (Cumano x Pidayack) with a double clear round and nearly two seconds faster than runners-up Michel Hecart and Quatrin de la Roque (Quick Star x Kannan). Billy Twomey was the only rider who could prevent full dominance from the French riders. The Irish rider has been out due to surgery and the show in Oliva Nova is his first since October last year. Aboard Tinka’s Serenade (Tinka’s Boy x African Drum), Twomey secured  third place ahead of another French rider Gilles Beltran de Balanda and Böckmann’s Lazio.

The 3* 1.45 class in Lanaken yet again had an incredible long start list, and all the riders were thus placed double from top to bottom today as well. Lynch rode the 10 year old Quintus 81 (by Quickstar) – a horse usually seen under Syria’s Ahmad Saber Hamcho – to victory after a double clear round, while Da Silva was aboard his faithful 18 year old partner La Toya III (by Fortuin Z). Both of them each won a trailer from JK Horsetrucks, while those that ended up joint second took home 4500 Euro each.

For over four decades Raymond James Stadium has been home to the jewel of show jumping, the $200,000 Gene Mische American Invitational, presented by G&C Farm. The class has made history as a tradition and landmark of the showjumping world, and tonight was no exception. It was a cliff-hanging night as spectators looked on to the stadium turf, but it was with speed and accuracy that McLain Ward was able to emerge victorious as one of the few riders in history to ever capture three American Invitational victories.

The Ratina Z arena hosted two 3* classes today; a two phase 1.40 class and a 1.45 class against the clock. With extremely long start lists, the classes had been divided into two with double placed riders all the way from first down to the last rider - hence all the joint winners.

"Hostess" Judy-Ann Melchior and Cha Cha Z, who is making her comeback at the Z-Tour after some time away from the ring. Cha Cha Z did her last show in Paris in 2011 and then got a break as Judy-Ann was pregnant. The mare then got ill, but now she is back in action.
