The Swedish Equestrian Federation has today announced that Fredrik Jönsson's championship partner Cold Play (Contendro I x Argentinus) has been euthanised after an accident. Having returned home from the Sunshine Tour in Vejer de la Frontera, Spain, the 13-year-old gelding was quarantining at home when he broke his leg during lunging earlier today.

"I have had him for nine years. He has meant everything for my career – and he has been a great friend," Jönsson told in a press release from the Swedish Equestrian Federation. "I want to thank Cold Play for all the memories and for everything he meant for me. I also want to thank my partners and co-owners, the Ingvarsson-family, as well as everyone else in the team around this horse. Cold Play has meant so much for so many. It is incredibly sad that it all came to an end, too early."

Cold Play and Jönsson represented Sweden at two major championships: At the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon (USA), and at the 2019 European Championships in Rotterdam (NED). From Tryon, they brought home team silver and were the best Swedish pair – placing 8th individually. "This is a very big loss for Swedish showjumping," Henrik Ankarcrona, Sweden's Chef d'Equipe, says in the same press release.

Our thoughts go out to all those close to Cold Play.
