Ireland's Michael Pender and Germany's David Will went off with the wins in the two CSI4* Longines Grand Prix qualifiers at Al Shira’aa International Horse Show on Wednesday and Thursday.

The only 17-year-old Pender already showed off his winning ways last week at the CSI3* World Cup event at Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, going to the top in one of the 1.45m competitions with Z7 Cordanos V (Catoki x Lordance) while on Wednesday he was again first in the lap of honor at Al Forsan Internatinal Sports Resort after riding the 8-year-old HHS Hercules (breeding not recorded) to victory in the 1.45m qualifier for Saturday's Grand Prix. Portugal's João Marquilhas followed in runner-up position aboard W Diva Rosa MFS (Wallenburg x Emillion), with 0.66 seconds separating the two in the jump-off. French rider Adeline Hecart finished third on Question d'Orval (Rosire x Tu Viens d'Orval).

On Thursday, it was David Will's turn to step to the top of the podium – less than a week after winning the Grand Prix at Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club. In the 1.50m Mother of Nations Grand Prix qualifier, David had again partnered up with the veteran Mic Mac du Tillard (Cruising x Galoubet A) and with a time of 35.34 seconds in the jump-off the two were by far the fastest of the class. Following in second place was Russia's Vladimir Tuganov on Sinfonie 168 (Satisfaction x Don Juan), stopping the clock at 39.88 seconds while third place went to France's Frederic David on Equador van't Roosakker (Nabab de Reve x Chin Chin).
