Norway's Johan-Sebastian Gulliksen has taken the lead in the European Championships for young riders in Samorin after day one of competition. Riding the 11-year-old mare Via vd Karmenhoek (Via Veneto x Landadel), Gulliksen was the fastest in this Table C 1.45m class to stop the clock at 74.29 seconds.

Germany's Lars Volmer finished second aboard Maja H (Contendro I x Lanciano) with a time of 74.87, while Switzerland's Anthony Bourquard ended third with Indiana des Abattes CH (Ishan x Gloum). In fourth came Belgium's Zoe Conter, bronze medallist from last year's junior Europeans, and fifth was Denmark's Emil Hallundbæk.

After the first round of the junior championships, it is Belgium's Simon Morssinkhof and the 10-year-old stallion Perigrosso (Perigueux x Grosso Z) that is in the lead after winning Group 1 on Wednesday.

Sitting second in the standings is Italy's Francesco Correddu with Necofix (Eco del Castegno x Avenir), that won Group 2. Great Britain's Harry Charles and Vivaldi du Dom (Casall x Veneur du Prelet) are the third best combination overall, and Charles is followed by his fellow team member Robert Murphy and Del Fuego (Murano x Amulet) with Slovenia's Gaj Riossa as number five with Carbon (Chalan x Domino).

Litauen's Rigule Petraviciute and Enjoy 92 (El Bundy I x Singular Joter) took Tuesday's win in the children's category Group 1, while Denmark's Cecilie Kjær won Group 2 riding Aasgaardens Celina (Concorde x Akhan Z).
