Edited press release from Longines Global Champions Tour
Nearly halfway through the 2023-season, the Longines Global Champions Tour heads to Sweden, for the 7th leg of the circuit – at the iconic Olympic Stadium in Stockholm. This historic venue has hosted prestigious events like the Olympic Games in 1912 and 1956, as well as the World Equestrian Games in the summer of 1990, further enhancing its rich heritage in the sport.
World number one Henrik von Eckermann will be leading the charge to his home event as fans will also get to witness Peder Fredricson make his debut on the tour this year, while Malin Baryard-Johnsson – currently third on the overall LGCT ranking – is another Swedish star on the entry list. They will be competing alongside compatriots Rolf-Göran Bengtsson – 2016 LGCT Champion, Angelica Augustsson-Zanotelli, Evelina Tovek, Wilma Hellström, Linda Heed and Petronella Anderson.
Other big names ready for Stockholm include reigning Olympic gold medallist Ben Maher, 2021 LGCT Grand Prix of Stockholm winner Scott Brash, plus Daniel Deusser, Gregory Wathelet, this year’s Mexico LGCT Grand Prix winner David Will, as well as podium veterans Marcus Ehning, Pieter Devos, and Olivier Philippaerts. Both Ludger Beerbaum and Philipp Weishaupt also return to the tour after sustaining injuries earlier this season.
