Harry Charles and Billabong du Roumois win the CSI5*-W 1.50m Caixabank Trophy in A Coruña

The 2023-edition of CSI5*-W A Coruña, Spain, hosts the 7th leg of the 2023/2024 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Western European League this weekend and the action at Casas Novas got underway with a British win in Friday's feature class – the CSI5*-W 1.50m Caixabank Trophy, which counted for the Longines Ranking Group B. 

Once again, it was Great Britain's Harry Charles – leading FEI U25 rider – and Billabong du Roumois (Mylord Carthago x Papillon Rouge, bred by Philippe Berthol) that snatched the win when stopping the clock on 55.64, pushing Julien Epaillard (FRA) and Cancun Torel Z (Cosinhus x Grannus, bred by Francois Xavier Guyard) down to the runner-up spot with their time of 56.03. 

Julien Anquetin (FRA), another speedy French rider, and Blood Diamond du Pont (Diamant de Semilly x Arpege Pierreville, bred by Matthieu Le Connetable) placed third in 56.42, while Jack Whitaker (GBR) and Equine America Valmy de la Lande (Mylord Carthago x Starter, bred by Jerome, Pierre & Angeline Leconte) finished fourth in 57.25, followed by Richard Howley (IRL) aboard Consulent de Prelet Z (Consulent Z x Fuego du Prelet, bred by Svo Trans Feka) in fifth in 57.95.

Earlier during the evening, France's Roger Yves Bost and Ballerine du Vilpion (Baloubet du Rouet x Quidam de Revel, bred by Christophe Legros) won the CSI5*-W 1.45m Marqués de Riscal Trophy – a class counting for Longines Ranking Group D.

With a time of 53.03, Bosty and Ballerine du Vilpion took the win ahead of their compatriot Olivier Robert (FRA) and Espri du Figuier AA (Upsilon x Ryon d'Anzex, bred by Thierry Fruchet) in second in 54.14. The host nation's own Jesus Garmendia Echevarria (ESP) and Sandano 2 (Sandro Boy x Baloubet du Rouet, bred by Gestüt Lewitz/Paul Schockemöhle) placed third, while Leopold van Asten (NED) and VDL Groep Nino du Roton (Iron Man van de Padenborre x Codex, bred by Martine Rolin) finished fourth in 57.92 and Therese Søhol Henriksen (NOR) fifth aboard Iron Maiden (Quasimodo van de Molendreef x Indorado, bred by A.O. de Haan) in 58.11.
