Brazil's Marlon Modolo Zanotelli won Sunday's CSI4* 1.55m Sweden Grand Prix in Stockholm, riding the 12-year-old mare Sirene de la Motte (Apache d'Adriers x Uriel d'Orval).
"This is my favourite show, above all others. I love Sweden and would like to move here," Marlon – who is married to Swedish showjumper Angelica Augustsson Zanotelli – said after his win.
The jump-off turned out to be a real challenge for the five clear riders. When Marlon came in as the last against the clock, none of the four before him had succeeded in producing a second clear round. "I got reports from my colleague Lauren Hough on how to ride the jump-off. She told me to just ride a nice and quiet round, so I did," Marlon told, after finishing on a time fault but still taking the top honours.
Sweden's own Petronella Andersson ended second on Eclatant (Berlin x Heartbreaker), with one down in the jump-off. "Of course I am a bit disappointed," she said after missing out on the victory.
Third was Peder Fredricson on Hansson WL (Hip Hop x Iowa) who secured himself the Leading Rider prize, a brand-new car. "What a weekend it turned into. I was not worse than 5th in any class," Peder smiled after.
