Edwin Smits’ top horse Farezzo (Arezzo VDL x Van Gogh) has been sold to Canada, and will in the future be seen with Yann Candele. The 12-year-old gelding has been ridden by Smits since the beginning of 2018, and together the two have had plenty of success with Grand Prix wins in Oliva as well as top-five finishes in Grand Prix classes in Donaueschingen, Grimaud and Gorla Minore. Last year, Farezzo and Smits were part of the Swiss Nations Cup teams in Gorla Minore and Vilamoura, as well as at the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup Final in Barcelona.
A statement from Edwin Smits in social media reads: “Proud and blessed that I could be your rider, co-owner and best friend! Thanks Sonia Membrez for believing in us! It has been a very difficult decision to let you go. My sports heart is bleeding. Emotions are making place for reality. We wish YOU, Yann Candele, team Canada, with captain Eric Lamaze all the best and lots of success. I will miss you!!! Bye bye FAREZZO."
