Beezie Madden has been named the USEF Equestrian of the Year for the 2nd year in a row and a fourth time overall. Beezie is the first person to have won this top honor four times having won the title in 2005, 2006 and 2013 previously. Madden started 2014 in the US with multiple victories at the FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival and a win for the third time of the American Invitational in Miami, Fl., alongside a win in the Gran Premio Veracruz at the CSIO4* Coapexpan in Mexico.

In the spring, Madden was sidelined for injury after breaking her collarbone thus forcing her to take, in large part, a summer out of the saddle. Madden returned to victory as her post-injury riding for Team USA helped them secure back-to-back wins in the Furusiyya FEI Naitons Cup CSIO5*s at Hickstead and Dublin. Madden also won the Longines King George V Gold Cup at Hickstead becoming the first woman to ever win the coveted title. Madden then proceeded to the Alltech World Equestrian Games aboard Cortes 'C', her Belgian Warmblood partner owned by Abigail Wexner, where they produced clean round after clean round to secure both team and individual bronze medals.

"The honor of being chosen as Equestrian of the Year is a great one, as it is voted on by my fellow riders and fans. It is always my priority to be a great equestrian, not just in terms of winning in the show ring, but by taking excellent care for the horses and representing my country and my team the best that I can," said Madden. "Most of all, though, I have to thank and give credit to Abigail Wexner for the opportunity to partner with Cortes and so many great horses."

The United States Equestrian Federation also named Madden's partner Cortes 'C' its Horse of the Year for 2014. This is the 2nd year in a row that a horse owned by Abigail Wexner for Team John Madden Sales, Inc. has won the honor, as last year's winner was Simon.

Cortes 'C', who has been ridden by Madden since 2011, had a stellar 2014 season. He won several top Grand Prix, including the Grand Prix de Wolden and the Longines King George V Cup. He also earned two bronze medals at the 2014 World Equestrian Games and was named "Horse of the Games" after his world class effort produced only one downed rail in 9 rounds of competition being navigated by not just Madden, but also her fellow competitors who are required to compete aboard each others mounts for one round each.

"People just love Cortes," said Madden. "He has a unique style over the fences, crossing his front legs. He has a mellow personality back in the barn, but in the ring he loves his job and loves to win. He is a kind and lovable horse with amazing talent and a horse that I have believed in from the beginning. I am so glad that he got his year to shine and be in the spotlight, he has earned it."
