Willem Greve (NED) and the 10-year-old mare Candy Luck Z (Comme Il Faut 5 x Canturo, bred by Dirk Geerinckx) won Sunday’s CSI3* 1.50m Grand Prix presented by Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort in Oliva Nova, Spain, where the Autumn MET I 2025 continued for its second week.

“It was quite a difficult Grand Prix,” Greve said about the course set by Isabel Fernández de Cañete (ESP). “Candy Luck Z was very co-operative; she was really on my side. In the jump-off, we were first to go, and we clocked a time that the others had to push for – and it paid off.”

In a jump-off between eight horse-and-rider combinations, Greve and Candy Luck Z crossed the finish line in 33.82 seconds to eventually take the win. Only the top three delivered a double clear, with Kendra Claricia Brinkop (GER) and Dawa de Greenbay Z (Diarado x Schilling ET) taking the runner-up spot with a time of 35.38 while Pedro Junqueira Muylaert (BRA) and Gemme Villers (Maloubet de Pleville x Norman Pre Noir) placed third in 35.54.

While both Julien Epaillard (FRA) on Easy Up de Grandry (Jarnac x For Pleasure) and Constant Van Paesschen (BEL) aboard Kannavara Z (Kannan x Contender) looked determined to catch the leading time, it was the rollback to the double as the fourth fence in the jump-off that caught them out. Carrying four penalties, Epaillard finished fourth in 34.91, followed by Van Paesschen in fifth in 35.29.

“Candy Luck is a horse that I ride for the Volpi-family,” Greve said about his winning mount. “She is a super mare and I'm happy to have such a talented horse in my team.”

“Together with my rider Matt Garrigan, we have had 11 horses here,” Greve said about his time at Centro Ecuestre Oliva Nova. “We had some green young horses with us, and our goal has been to try to give them more mileage here.”
