The final competition of the Spruce Meadows ‘National’, presented by Rolex, in Calgary (CAN) belonged to Daniel Coyle (IRL) and Farrel (Cardento 933 x Stakkato). In the CSI5* 1.50m ATB Cup, FEI course designer Olaf Petersen Jr. (GER) put forth a track that tested the athletes with only five jumping clear in round one and qualifying for the jump-off.

The Irish have been a force to reckon with all season long, and they would cap off the first two weeks of competition at Spuce Meadows with another victory. Coyle and the 15-year-old gelding Farrel were the only double clear of the competition, crossing the jump-off finish line in a time of 43.89 and taking the win ahead of Kara Chad (CAN) and Igor GPH (Harley x Crawford 5) in second and Eugenio Garza Perez (MEX) aboard Chalouries PS (Chacco-Blue x Baloubet du Rouet) in third.

“I've ridden every single ride and every single ring on every stage of a horse from 5 to 15, 16 (years)," Coyle said. "And it has really, really improved me as a rider. The time allowed (is) different here, the speed's different here, the jumps are different here. So you got to adapt to that, and when I look back at the first year I was here, lots of mistakes were made and probably ones that stuck with me forever. And I've learned a lot here. And I ain't finished.”
