Counting for the Longines Ranking group AA, the class saw only four horse-and-rider-combinations from the 32 at start clear the first-round track set by Olaf Petersen Jr. (GER). Joining Deusser and Gangster v/h Noddevelt in the deciding jump-off were the current world number one, Sweden's Henrik von Eckermann and Minute Man (Vigo D Arsouilles x Montender), Italy's Emanuele Camilli and Odense Odeveld (Diamant de Semilly x Querlybet Hero) and the hosts' Carlos Hank Guerreiro on H5 Origi Horta (Kasanova de La Pomme x Vigo d'Arsouilles).
While Hank Guerreiro clocked the fastest time – 43.02 – he had to settle for fourth with a fence down, while Deusser took the top honours with a clear round in a time of 43.52, followed by Camilli in second in 46.96 and von Eckermann in third in 53.09.
