Mexico's Federico Fernandez and his 14-year-old faithful partner Romeo (Lando x Cheers Cassini) took a popular home win in Saturday's CSI5* 1.60m GNP Grand Prix at the Otomi Equestrian Club in San Miguel de Allende. Posting the only double clear in the class, Fernandez took the top honours ahead of Latvia's Kristaps Neretnieks and Valour (Verdi TN x Calido I) who finished second after opting to retire from the jump-off where they clipped a rail on the first fence as they tried to challenge Fernandez's time to beat of 48.91 seconds.
Three Mexican riders completed the top five, all with four faults from round one; Alejandro Mills on Bretzel du Marais (Quaprice Bois Margot x Diamant de Semilly) in third, Luis Alejandro Plascencia on Huberth B (Verdi TN x Mr Blue) in fourth, and Jose Antonio Chedraui Prom on Haraminka P (Verdi TN x Voltaire) in fifth.
