Mexico’s Francisco Pasquel Vega and Dominant 2000 Z (Diamant de Semilly x Cassini I) landed a five-star Spruce Meadows Summer Series victory on Friday afternoon, taking the top spot in the CSI5* 1.50m Canadian Utilities Cup on day two of the Spruce Meadows 'Pan American' presented by Rolex in Calgary (CAN).

The up-and-comer nailed the jump-off ahead of just three other riders from a starting competition of 65, to take top spot in the qualifier for Sunday’s CSI5* Pan American Cup 1.60m Grand Prix.

“To come here to Spruce Meadows, one of the best venues in the world, to beat all of these talented riders, is pretty special," the happy winner said.

Matthew Sampson (GBR) and Daniel (Heartbreaker x San Patrignano Mister) took the runner-up spot, followed by Jos Verlooy (BEL) and Nixon van'T Meulenhof (Denzel van'T Meulenhof x Carthago) in third, Sameh El Dahan (GBR) and WKD Aimez Moi (Je T'aime Flamenco x Le Tot de Semilly) in fourth and Vaclav Stanek (CZE) aboard Quintin (Quaprice Bois Margot x Emilion) in fifth.
