British rider Harry Charles took the top honours in Monday’s 1.55m CSI4* Grand Prix at the Sunshine Tour.
Riding Controe (Wender R x Iroko), Charles was up against ten other horse-and-rider combinations in the jump-off and it was his father Peter Charles that took an early lead after a very fast round on ABC Quantum Cruise (Obos Quality x Cruising) in 33.91 seconds.
The time proved hard to beat until French rider Olivier Robert and Eros (Querlybet Hero x Forever) came in, and took over the lead with their 33.51 seconds. But then came Harry Charles and flew around the course in 33.02, knocking the Frenchman off the top of the podium and into second place. Great Britain’s Spencer Roe could not quite catch up with the top three but took the fourth place riding Wonder Why (Padinus x Laurin) while another British rider, Graham Gillespie riding Andretti (Acodetto x Candillo), took fifth.
