Edited press release from Spruce Meadows
Hilary McNerney (USA) and Astilbe (Numero Uno x Calvados) won Friday's CSI5* 1.50m ATCO Cup at the Spruce Meadows 'North American' tournament.
Over 40 competitors stepped through the iconic clock tower to take on the track designed by FEI course designer Peter Holmes (CAN), hoping to post clear first rounds and advance to the jump-off.
Twelve horse-and-rider combinations representing five countries made it to the jump-off. Katie Laurie (AUS) on Cera Caruso (Casall x unknown) and Mario Deslaurier (CAN) on Uris de La Roque (Capital x Quick Star) were tied at the top of the leader board with a time of 44.39 seconds in the jump-off, but Hilary McNerney was determined to change that. As last to go in the jump-off, McNerney pulled out all the stops to post an impressive clear round with a time of 43.92 seconds, taking the win, pushing Laurie and Deslaurier to share the second place. Jordan Coyle (IRL) and Picador (Lupicor x Concorde) placed fourth, while Conor Swail (IRL) and Gamble (Vingino x Indoctro) finished fifth.
The top five placed riders from this competition are now qualified for the ATCO Queen Elizabeth II Cup Grand Prix on Saturday, July 9, 2022.
